The latest Nintendo Indie World Showcase featured a string of actual game releases, as a bunch of long-awaited games suddenly appeared for sale. These included games like Axiom Verge 2 and Boyfriend Dungeon, and many of them are available across more than just Nintendo Switch, with PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions coming alongside or in the near future.
Here’s the full stream, followed by a run down of all the games that have been shadow dropped onto digital storefronts.
Axiom Verge 2
The 2015 original was widely held up as an exemplary Metroidvania, and the sequel aims to follow in those footsteps. Following Indra, the mysterious billionaire behind the worldwide Globe 3 conglomerate, you will have a new world to explore, new enemies to battle, new powers to master and upgrade, and more.
Axiom Verge 2 is out now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC via the Epic Games Store.
Blending together dating sim and dungeon crawler, Boyfriend Dungeon has been pretty high up on a lot of people’s wish lists. As you delve into dungeons and fight monsters, you will do so with a living weapon in your hand that will transform into a man, woman or non-binary individual who players can befriend and date.
Sound like your kind of genre mashup? Boyfriend Dungeon is out now for Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PC via Steam, Epic and itch.io. It’s also on Xbox Game Pass.
Curious Expedition 2
Originally released for PC earlier this year, Curious Expedition 2 is out now for Nintendo Switch with all the updates and content expansions that have arrived since day one. This is a narrative roguelike in which you adventure through the late 19th Century to uncover new mysteries and treasures for the 1889 World Fair. See our Curious Expedition 2 review here.
The game will also be coming to PlayStation and Xbox later in 2021.
Slime Rancher: Portable Edition
Monomi Park has announced Slime Rancher 2, there’s plenty of time to kill between now and that game’s release. Enter Slime Rancher: Portable Edition, a Nintendo Switch port of the popular and cute slime farming game, and it’s out now!
A timed console exclusive for Nintendo Switch, Garden Story is out now for the handheld and for PC via Steam. You will become the guardian (a walking, sword-wielding grape) of the grove, exploring a vibrant island, fight off the invading rot, and work to restore the community and your home.
Islanders: Console Edition
Originally released on PC in 2019, Islanders is a relaxing city builder, starting off on a procedurally generated island and awarding you points from maximising the effectiveness of your building placement. That in turn unlocks new buildings for you to place as you grow and develop your little island. When you can’t build any further, you just start all over again on a different island.
Islanders: Console Edition is out now for Nintendo Switch, with PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and Xbox One versions to follow on 26th August.
