Asobo Studio has announced a ton of new content coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator through the rest of 2021. World Update VI will enhance the game with better looking versions of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, there’s new “Local Legends” included with that as well, but later in 2021 the game will get a new competitive multiplayer mode with the Reno Air Race.
Let’s start with the World Update, which will release on 7th September for the game on Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10.
World Update VI includes new aerial imagery, high-resolution elevation maps, and 3D cities from across the region. This includes Frankfurt and Wuppertal in Germany, Basel in Switzerland, and Graz and Vienna in Austria. There’s also 100 hand-crafted locations and new airports at Lübeck, Stuttgart, Klagenfurt, and St. Gallen.
As always there’s Tnew discovery flights, landing challenges, and bush trips to highlight the region… but that’s not all. There will also be new planes to fly in the Local Legends. This includes the Junkers JU-52:
And the forward looking Volocopter:
But what about the competitive multiplayer? Well, the Reno Air Racing Association has been brought in to help recreate the StIhl national Championship Air Races within the simulation. This will allow players to actually race against their friends and other pilots.
The Reno Air Races will be added to the game in Fall 2021.
Asobo has been very busy through 2021, with regular monthly updates for the game and (best of all) it came out for Xbox Series X. We reviewed Flight Simulator on console, with great things to say:
“Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Series X|S is a remarkable achievement, and one which brings the flight simulator experience into your living room with emphatic effect. There’s no sense that this is a cut-back console port, but one that widens the genre’s influence into places it’s never conquered before.”
