Far Cry 6 has a new story trailer, revealed at Gamescom 2021. In it we get to “discover the story of Yaran Dictator Antón Castillo (Giancarlo Esposito) and the modern guerrillas rising up against him.”
Far Cry 6’s primary protagonist is Dani Rojas, a character that’s more than just a silent blank slate. Dani is a military drop out who was all set to leave the island, but has been convinced to join the LIbertad resistance movement, alongside a colourful cast of other rebellious characters.
The game will star Giancarlo Esposito, who’s best known for his role in Breaking Bad, as the main villain. He’s the dictatorial El Presidente of the war-torn tropical paradise of Yara. Esposito’s character, Antón Castillo, rules this land with an iron fist, attempting to restore it to its former glory as a guerrilla revolution rages in the modern day. He hopes that his son, Diego, will follow in his footsteps.
Announced in July 2020, shortly before the first Ubisoft Forward stream, Far Cry 6 is a revolutionary tale that sees you taking up arms to liberate the Cuban-inspired island of Yara.
A Far Cry 6 gameplay reveal in the build up to E3 this year gave us a good look at how the game is evolving the series. Far Cry 6 is being built on the principle of ‘resolver’, whether that’s how the people of Yara reuse, repair and repurpose everything they can – which can be seen through the world – or the new Resolver weapons and tools, fully customised weapons built out of spare part. These include a motorcycle engine powered minigun all the way through to a homing missile throwing backpack.
It’s wild stuff, as you can see in our preview video:
Far Cry 6 will be out on 7th October 2021 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Google Stadia and Amazon Luna.
