Ahead of this week’s hotly anticipated PlayStation Showcase, Sony have updated their domain for the Infamous video game series.

Spotted by Twitter user Onion00048, Sony and Sucker Punch updated the domain for infamousthegame.com just weeks ago. Whether this is purely an unremarkable routine process or an indication of an upcoming announcement is anyone’s guess.

Rumours suggest that we could see the fan favourite PlayStation franchise return during Thursday’s showcase. However, there’s nothing substantive to back up these claims just yet, so don’t reach for that Delsin beanie just yet.

Sony haven’t revealed much about the upcoming broadcast and what games will be featured. There will be updates from various first party studios as well as “some of the industry’s most imaginative developers” with previews of  titles coming out for Christmas “and beyond.”

The ‘and beyond’ is quite useful as Sony have pushed Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7 and many other projects out to 2022. “One thing to note,” add Sony, “PlayStation’s next generation of VR won’t make an appearance this time.”

Whatever they plan to show, there’s plenty of excitement from both PlayStation gamers and those within the gaming industry. David Jaffe, who previously worked on both Twisted Metal and God of War, is clearly ecstatic for whatever his former publisher has in the pipeline:

So, what are the chances of a new inFamous? The series has been on hiatus since 2014 with the release of inFamous: First Light, the superb expansion to inFamous: Second Son on PS4.

We recently discussed the possibility of where the franchise could go following those first three games. Towards the end of the PS4 generation it was hard to see a place for inFamous in Sony’s lineup, especially with Marvel’s Spider-Man being the console’s standout superhero sim.

However, with Sucker Punch having wrapped Ghost of Tsushima, there’s a chance they’ve picked up from where they left off.

You can catch the upcoming PlayStation Showcase this Thursday, September 9th, at 9pm BST. You won’t want to miss it.

  1. Looks like they’ve had that domain name for the past 14 years, and they just renewed it for another year. As I’m sure they do for hundreds of different domain names. It’s been pointing to the main Sucker Punch website for the past 5 years or so.

So there’s no reason to get excited just because of that.

    • No, do not take a new game or a remaster away from me.
