Turbo Overkill looks very familiar and I’m sure it’s been announced before but we have not covered it on TSA before so let’s take a look. It’s an ultraviolent cyberpunk FPS created by a chap who made the Doom II mod Total Chaos.  3D Realms co-founder Scott Miller, who is behind Duke Nukem, Prey, Wolfenstein 3D and other games, has been on hand to offer “creative support” so that should give you a good idea of what to expect.

Here’s some more blurb about the game.

Hunt down a rogue AI in Paradise, a dystopian Blade Runner-meets-DOOM hellscape. Rev up mercenary Johnny Turbo’s chainsaw leg for brutal slide and jump attacks. Wall-run and dash around levels packed with secrets. Outrun rival bounty hunters by surfing on the hoods of flying cars. Unload a dizzying array of inventive firepower, like the auto-locking Twin Magnums or the Telefragger Sniper Rifle, which warps Johnny inside the target, exploding them from within.

The game finds an entire city’s population possessed by Syn, a rogue AI, and our hero Johnny Turbo is the man to take down the AI. The game includes “Activate Hero Time”, which is a slo-mo mode with a twist.

“Turbo Overkill is fast, frenetic, and ferocious—excess personified,” said Sam Prebble, one half of Trigger Happy Interactive. “This is the game we’ve always wanted to play; making it is a dream project. Relentless enemies, extremely deadly and fun weapons, speed and precision above all else—if you love Quake III Arena, modern and classic DOOM, or Apogee’s legendary first-person shooters, you’ll feel right at home in Paradise.”

“As the guy who helped launch the shooter genre with Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem 3D, Max Payne, and Prey, I haven’t been this excited about an FPS since the golden era of Apogee/3D Realms,” wrote Scott Miller, founder. “Turbo Overkill is a sandbox of fun and original gameplay ideas that come together like a night of melty hot pizza and your favorite cold, frothy brew. Playing this game made me a Turbo Lover all over again.”

Turbo Overkill will be released in 2022 on Steam for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
