Abandoned developer Blue Box Game Studios has released a new statement on its social media today, two months after last posting. This statement is not about Abandoned directly but instead a response to death threats that staff members have been receiving from members of the gaming public. In the statement, it is mentioned that the death threats are impacting studio members and their families, as well as other business. Blue Box has also stated that it will be posting regular updates about Abandoned through a blog. The full statement is below.

“The following message is not addressed as a company, but as a group of human beings. The last few days have been difficult. Death threats are increasing online but unfortunately also physically, and this has to stop. We have been dealing with death threats the past few months, and the last few days we have been dealing with it again especially physically. This not only affects us as a team but everyone within our environments. Other businesses, families, and everyone surrounding us. We want to work in a safe environment, and with job openings coming up in the future we want to offer a safe environment for future colleagues as well. We won’t tolerate this and will take action by providing authorities IP addresses, logs and camera footage.

We are fully aware of the negative situation we have created and we truly understand your frustration. But what we don’t understand are the death threats. We understand and appreciate your support for Abandoned, we are working hard on Abandoned. We will start a regular blog on our website that you can follow and we will post any news on Abandoned on our Twitter. But all we ask until then is just to give us space, and let us work on Abandoned. Please. Thank you.

The Abandoned app was supposed to show trailers, and give regular updates on the state of the game. But it is clear that the app was launched too early.

  1. Insane, some people need a serious reality check. It’s a game. I hope those involved in making the threats are caught and prosecuted!
