The fourth and final part of season one of The Dark Pictures Anthology has been revealed and it’s called The Devil In Me. Before we get to that can we just discuss that ‘season one’, there’s never been mention of that before so one can only assume that there will be a season two.
We have had ghost ships, witches, and creatures skittering around in dark caverns in this first season with each game being based on a certain style of horror. For The Devil In Me it looks like the game has been influenced by the Saw and Hostel franchises. There are shots of torn flesh, knives, and what appears to be a puppet made out of a decomposing corpse. Lovely. Check out the trailer.
Very little is known about the game other than it is set in Michigan and seems to be in a relatively modern time period. The big star name for the game this time Irish actress Jessie Buckley who won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in Wild Rose. You may also recognise her from a star performance Lyudmilla Ignatenko in Chernobyl, or Nurse Oraetta Mayflower in the fourth season of Fargo.
It has been suggested that the game may also influenced by real life serial killer H. H. Holmes. During the late 1880’s he built a hotel in Chicago packed full of secrete passages and sound proofed rooms which allowed him to murder his guests. He also had a torture chamber in which he starved and burned his victims. Nice chap.
The final game in the season has been teased a few times in the previous games, the symbol that represents the game has been spotted in Man of Medan and also on the sweater pattern of the drug dealers in House of Ashes. There’s also an article in Old Magazine about “Architects of Murder”.
No release date has been given but I would assume the game will launch in October 2022.
