Netflix has released a nice long trailer for The Witcher Season 2, continuing the hugely popular live action adaptation of the popular book series and blockbusting video games. Season 2 will be ready to watch from 17th December 2021.

The new trailer sees the various empires of the fantasy world mobilising for war, plenty of Geralt fighting both monsters and humans, as well as hints of what’s to come from Geralt mentorship of Ciri. Obviously there’s plenty of Jaskier and Jennefer, and some new characters thrown into the mix as well.

Netflix has previously shared the the seven episode titles – A Grain of Truth, Kaer Morhen, What is Lost, Redanian Intelligence, Turn Your Back, Dear Friend, and Voleth Meir – which might give some hints as to what to expect for those who have read the original tales by Andrzej Sapkowski, and we can also expect that there will be less of the slightly muddled and confusing time-hopping that we saw in the first season.

Thoughts are already turning to the continuation of the story through the rest of Sapkowski’s novels, with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich teasing that Season 3 will follow “a particular book very closely”, and that there will be a “lot of action, some death”. Again, readers of the books will likely be able to infer quite a lot from that.

The release of the first season of The Witcher in late 2019 saw to a boom of interest for the video game series, with developer CD Projekt Red doing very well through the end of year sales as more and more people flocked to play their already hugely successful third game.

At WitcherCon earlier this year, they confirmed that new content based off the streaming series would be released for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Of course, it would have been perfect for the studio to be able to release the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade for The Witcher 3 and also the new DLC for the game in time for the Season 2 debut, but CDPR announced last week that the new generation upgrade will be delayed until 2022.
