Wired Productions and Italian developer LKA have announced that their psychological thriller Martha Is Dead will release on 24th February 2022 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Recreating a slice of the very real Tuscan countryside within Unreal Engine 4, the game draws upon superstition and folklore for a traumatic mystery that’s set during the latter stages of World War II. The game centres around the twins Martha and Giulia, exploring a peculiar bond that they have and the processing of grief and loss.
Luca Dalco, Founder & Director at LKA said, “Martha Is Dead has been a long journey for us, but we’re now nearing the point where the whole world will get to play it,. This is an experience curated to be faithful and accurate to the era, from our authentic recreation of the Tuscan countryside through to the impact that WWII had on Italy. We can’t wait for people to experience the game for themselves.”
Martha Is Dead follows on from LKA’s first horror game, The Town of Light, similarly taking place in Italy but with an insane asylum as its setting. Their follow up takes a rather different tone, the idyllic environment on the surface, and a focus on photography that even features an accurate process for taking film and developing it in a dark room.
We got to go hands on with the opening hour Martha Is Dead earlier this year (when it was still expected to release in 2021), saying “From the opening hour of Martha Is Dead, there’s a lot to like about LKA’s second game. The setting and tone are compelling, the photography a fresh take on a horror staple, and there’s plenty of twists to the narrative that are best experienced first hand. Horror fans will be able to do so a little later this year.”
