Sons Of The Forest, the eagerly anticipated sequel to 2018’s The Forest, now has a release date.

Developer Endnight Games has announced that the disturbing first person title will officially launch on May 22nd, 2022. Only a PC version has been confirmed so far – however, we’d wager that a console port won’t be too far behind.

There’s also a new gameplay trailer for the horror survival sim, showing off its enhanced visuals and game systems.

Once again, it appears as though players will traverse a dense sprawl of woodland, gathering resources and fortifying their campsites as the sun begins to set. Nightfall will summon all kind of nasties to your doorstep, from feral cannibals to the kind of twisted monstrosity you might find in John Carpenter’s The Thing.

The trailer gives us a glimpse at some of the weapons, items, and enemies that will appear in Sons Of The Forest. We see a survivor crafting a crude wooden stake before heading to shore in search of food. From there we see them snacking on some rather raw-looking tortoise meat (yum!) before setting up camp.

Of course, staying fed and watered is just the beginning. Much like the original game, Sons Of The Forest will beckon you to explore is dark mysteries, venturing into the woods and cave networks in search of answers as to what’s going on.

Co-op multiplayer played a huge role in The Forest and we get to see snippets of it in this trailer. We’re hoping Endnight Games has made the camp building tools even tighter in this sequel, expanding the scope for customisation.

One final highlight from the trailer is a particularly gruesome looking foe that shoots mutated babies at survivors. This bizarre scene seemingly takes place within a high-end underground bunker, giving us a look at one of the potential new locales in Sons Of The Forest.
