The Matrix Awakens is now available to download and play on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for free. A tie in for the new The Matrix film that opens in cinemas later this month, it’s also a technical showcase for Epic Games and Unreal Engine 5 on the new generation consoles. Here’s a 10 minute video exploring what it offers:
Here’s the download links you need to download the game from the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store.
Everything shown in the above video features within The Matrix Awakens experience that you can download, really pushing the photorealistic credentials of Unreal Engine 5 – it’s a little bit uncanny valley, to be honest. It’s not just there to look pretty, but also has some gameplay tried into it as well, with some on-the-rails shooting segments interwoven with story.
Here’s a little blurb from the trailer:
Prepare for a wild ride into the reality-bending universe of ‘The Matrix’, featuring performances by Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Created by members of the original movie team including Lana Wachowski, the demo morphs from breathtakingly realistic cinematic to fast-paced third-person shooter experience, complete with an action-packed car chase sequence, and also provides a rich, vastly detailed open world to explore. Step into the world of one of the most iconic action franchises ever made and explore the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment.
A new trailer for The Matrix Resurrections was released last week and it has certainly generated hype for the movie. Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) are returning but as (Spoilers) they died in the third film it’s been unclear how they have returned. The latest trailer clearly states “maybe this isn’t the story we think it is”, and we can also hear a character saying “Why use old code for something new?” Is this a hint that Neo and Trinity aren’t actually returning at all and the whole thing is yet another simulation?
The Matrix Resurrections will be released on 22nd December 2021.
