Our Most Wanted Games of 2022 – 20 to 16

We’re getting closer to unveiling the heaviest hitters on our top list for 2022, the video games everyone wants to get their hands on.

This next segment in our most wanted list isn’t exactly short on must-haves from the coming twelve months, though. From superhero tactical sims and the next LEGO Star Wars all the way through to a delightfully twisted PS5 exclusive, let’s carry on with our latest picks!

20. Marvel’s Midnight Suns

We’re seeing a real superhero video game resurgence following the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man. In fact, it’s been a very interesting time for Marvel in particular with DC and the Batman Arkham series having been on hiatus for quite a while.

What makes Midnight Suns so fascinating is that it doesn’t want to be yet another linear action game or superhero sandbox adventure. Developer Firaxis boasts some of the smartest minds in the industry, responsible for XCOM and Civilization among other genre-defining strategy games. In Midnight Suns, you’ll battle a supernatural evil, enlisting the help of familiar characters from Wolverine and Captain America, to Doctor Stranger and your own customisable hero, “The Hunter”. There’s a strong strategic element with turn-based skirmishes, squad upgrades, and some deck-building gameplay.

19. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Announced a long time ago in what feels like a galaxy far, far away, we’ve been waiting patiently for the latest game in TT’s long-running LEGO adaptation series. It’s been almost twenty years since the studio created the original LEGO Star Wars which defined the template for so many fun, family-friendly hits.

With The Skywalker Saga, TT is looking to finally evolve that template. This definitive LEGO Star Wars experience will feature huge open worlds and a timeline that covers nine entire movies with the biggest roster of characters ever seen in a LEGO game. What’s more exciting is how that familiar action platforming gameplay has been modernised with major improvements to exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat.

18. Baldur’s Gate III

A dream come true for fans of old-school computer roleplaying games, Baldur’s Gate is getting the proper sequel it deserves. In fact, you may have already played it, with Baldur’s Gate III currently available via early access. Set within the rich fantasy world of Dungeons & Dragons, we couldn’t think of a better developer to take the reins than Larian Studios, creators of Divinity: Original Sin and its sublime sequel.

Taking place more than 100 years after the events of Baldur’s Gate II, the game can be played either solo or cooperatively online as you create and form parties of adventurers. Selecting from a wide pool of character races and classes, you’ll engage in tactical turn-based battles as you try and repel a mind flayer invasion.

17. A Plague Tale: Requiem

One of the sleeper hits of the past generation, A Plague Tale is getting a sequel in 2022. Set during the Hundred Years’ War, A Plauge Tale: Innocence had you fleeing the French Inquisition as Amicia de Rune as she tries to save her brother from a mysterious illness. Combining intuitive stealth action, a gripping story, and more rats than you could shake a torch at, we’re delighted to be revisiting this vermin-infested saga next year with A Plague Tale: Requiem.

Described as brutal and breathtaking, Amicia and Hugo’s story will continue as players embark on an adventure into new regions. We’re hoping to see developer Asobo Studio expand the options players have access to during enemy encounters with even more clever puzzles to solve.

16. Ghostwire: Tokyo

This newest game from Japanese developer Tango Gameworks sees the studio steering in a new direction after two bloody back-to-back survival horror games with The Evil Within and The Evil Within II.

The citizens of Tokyo have seemingly vanished in a cataclysmic event, the city now overrun with ghostly beings known as Visitors. Ghostwire Tokyo plays out in first person as you go in search of answers, chasing a mysterious cult-like group while throwing down against paranormal entities using a mix of magic and karate. This one is expected to release for PS5 in 2022, a timed exclusive from before Xbox bought up Bethesda’s family of game studios.

That’s all for now. Join us tomorrow as we approach that coveted top ten list.
