Happy New Year! The bells have tolled and we can finally consign 2021 to the dumpster fire of history alongside 2020. 2022’s going to be way better, right? Right?
Looking back on 2021, we’ve collectively had to endure another rough twelve months, starting with the lows of last winter’s lockdown, the hope afforded to us by vaccines and a summer of sporting highs (and heartbreak), and then fresh shocks to the system toward the end of the year. It’s genuinely difficult to remember everything that’s happened, but the fact of the matter is that we’re not out of the woods yet. I hope you and yours have made it OK and that the future bodes well for us all.
On the gaming side of things, 2021 was a decidedly mixed bag. There’s been outstanding games like Deathloop – our Game of the Year winner – Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, Death’s Door, Before Your Eyes, Unpacking, Resident Evil Village, It Takes Two and on and on and on… but it could have been even better, couldn’t it? Almost every single Warner Bros. game was delayed, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War: Ragnarok and Gran Turismo 7 pushed back, and on and on and on… That’s before we consider the inability of Sony or Microsoft to even vaguely keep up with demand for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles.
Of course, that just lays the table for what is going to be a veritable and messy feast of glorious gaming in the coming months. The release schedule as it currently stands makes 2022 look like it’s going to be one of the craziest and best years of gaming we’ll ever have the chance to experience – just see our Most Wanted feature whichis honestly just scratching the surface. It should hopefully become a little bit easier to pick up a new generation console and we’ll start to see more and more games that let them flex their muscles.
We can’t wait, and we hope that you’ll join us through the year as we try to keep up with everything that’s going on. In the here and now, though, let’s just put the last twelve months in the rear view mirror once again and hope that 2022 is a more positive year for us all.
On behalf of all of the team at TheSixthAxis, I wish you a Happy New Year!
