Free Hitman 3 DLC for Steam owners after launch woes

hitman 3 update

IO Interactive is offering free Hitman 3 DLC to those who purchased the game on Steam following some launch issues with the game.

This is in response to a flurry of criticism and negative Steam reviews when Hitman 3 launched on January 20, 2022. Fans vented their frustration at the £49.99 price tag and Epic exclusivity among other issues. Grumbling assassins also point to the web of different add-ons and additions as a source of frustration.

“Our HITMAN 3 launch on Steam didn’t go as planned,” IO Interactive has admitted. “We were excited to bring Hitman 3 to Steam with new content and we knew that anticipation and excitement levels amongst our Steam players was high.”

“Ultimately, we didn’t meet our own expectations of a launch experience and we don’t like that our Steam community is beginning their Hitman 3 journey in this way.”

Those who purchased the game on Steam will now be entitled to upgrade their Hitman 3 experience with one of the two offers:

  • Those who own the Hitman 3 Standard Edition will be upgraded to the Deluxe Edition for free. This includes new modes, contracts, and cosmetics as well as other bonuses.
  • Those who own the Hitman 3 Deluxe Edition or Hitman Trilogy will get access to the Seven Deadly Sins DLC for free.

Hitman 3 finally made its way onto Steam this month following its year-long PC exclusivity period on the Epic Games Store. It is also available on consoles including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Note that the latter is a cloud powered version of the game.

IO Interactive recently announced Hitman 3 Year 2 which comes with a glut of new features and ways to play. PC owners can witness the entire trilogy in VR, as well as two new modes – Freelancer and Elusive Target Arcade – with additional levels and locations in the pipeline for 2022.

In our Hitman 3 review at launch we scored Agent 47’s last outing an 8/10:

Charting the series’ progress since that 2016 Paris debut has been a fascinating journey. IO have learned a lot over the past five years and that really shows in Hitman 3. It’s a flashier, more fluid evolution of IO’s original template – a rewarding conclusion to one of the most unique video game franchises around, and one we’ll continue playing for many weeks and months to come.
