Frontier Developments has announced F1 Manager 2022, a new Formula 1 management sim from the creators of such excellent games as Planet Zoo, Planet Coaster and Elite Dangerous. F1 Manager 2022 will release this summer across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
F1 Manager 2022 is expected to release this summer, which ties in with previous statements that it will come in the second half of the year. It will be the first in a yearly franchise from Frontier as part of a long term multi-title agreement with the sport’s rights holders and management. The first entry in the series will task you with leading a team as a team principle, leading drivers, engineers and building up your team to (hopefully) win world championships.
You’ll have control of every aspect of running a team, from upgrading cars and race facilities, to hiring drivers and engineers, balancing the books, and then looking to make critical decisions at exactly the right moments during a race weekend.
Intriguingly, the ending card features the logos for not just Formula 1, but also for Formula 2 and Formula 3 feeder championships. Could we see management of the lower categories feature as well?
Formula 1 Managing Director, and former multi-championship winning team principle, Ross Brawn said “It’s great to see F1 Manager 2022 take shape and for people to see this exciting title come to life. I know from personal experience that leading a team can be challenging, but it’s certainly rewarding. The F1 Manager franchise is a great opportunity for fans to put themselves in the shoes of a team principal and experience some of that for themselves.”
2022 is a huge year for Formula 1, as sweeping new regulations come in that everyone hopes will help to mix up the long-established pecking order of the different teams, thanks in part to stricter spending limits, as well as entirely new cars that should engender closer racing.
Now there’s not one, but two upcoming video games for fans of the sport to look forward to, with Codemasters set to deliver another of their yearly F1 games, where you’ll be sat firmly in the cockpit of the ultra-fast cars, and with Frontier’s sim from the pit wall.
