The allure of going outside has been hard to fight this week, with lovely spring sunshine bathing the UK, and not being too hot despite relatively cloudy skies. Still, staying inside is what I’ve had to do plenty of, as I’ve reviewed Kirby and the Forgotten Land, previewed Cursed to Golf, and then played more of Gran Turismo 7 in the evenings.
Aran has had a few games on the go, playing more of Necromunda Hired Gun until he gave up on an over the top boss battle… so he went back to Elden Ring, which might seem counterintuitive. That’s especially tru since he made it through Stormveil Castle and quickly discovered that he has more levelling up to do in order to battle Godrick.
Gamoc played more Horizon Forbidden West this week, and the same was true of Ade, who feels that the story has actually started to pick up pace for him. He’s joined that with Shadow Warrior 3, which is “an enjoyable 90’s style FPS with a 2022 paint job”, and has the “best jumping in an FPS since Metroid Prime”. Then there was Mayhem Brawlers which he picked up in the psn sale, and Roblox with his little ‘un, who loved his time with it.
With fresh DLC tracks to play, Jim’s gone back to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and has been hopping in and out of multiplayer once again. Alongside that, it’s been his usual dose of For Honor thanks to the start of Year 6, and early hands on time with Ghostwire: Tokyo, “which is easily the best game we’ve seen from Tango Gameworks. At it’s core, it’s a reskinned first person shooter that swaps guns for supernatural powers though Ghostwire’s setting and the menagerie of folklore-inspired enemies make it far more interesting than what the genre typically churns out.”
Sounds great, but he wasn’t the one to review it. That was Nick P, and you can read his thoughts on it here! He had Elden Ring on the go as well, now close to hitting level 150 after about 90 hours of play. “Picked up the Rivers of Blood kitana and not looked back. Enemies melt in front of me,” he says.
Steve spent much of his week with the glorious Tunic – read his Tunic review here. Having polished that off, he’s moved on to Itorah, “a Mesoamerican-inspired Metroidvania that I have had my eye on since an impressive demo a couple of years back”, and still has aspirations of playing Kirby and Elden Ring this weekend.
Last but not least for this week, Miguel’s jumped into the new Fortnite season, and put time into “this cool indie Japanese action RPG called Elden Ring.”
Now then, what have you played?

I got the platinum in Spare Parts on PS3 and I’ve started Hungry Giraffe on Vita – that might take some time as you have to get 3,000,000 points (they call them calories, but still). As you can only get about 1,000 points a minute, on a really good run, it’s not a quick finish! Effectively it’s an endless runner, so my eyes start going a bit peculiar after a while too.
Tomorrow I’m joining a friend online to play Mercenaries 2 (hopefully, assuming the servers are kind to us!)
For tonight, I’m taking advantage of the decent weather and meeting some friends in a beer garden before going for curry!

Elden Ring – After spending 25 hours randomly wandering the map and killing a few dungeon/cave bosses along the way, i’ve just turned my attention to the 1st main boss – Magrit – and defeated him on my 2nd attempt so i’m feeling a bit awesome :)

Mostly a lot of GT7. Not run into any problem with a lack of money yet, so I didn’t run off to Metacritic to give it a zero.
Definitely the best one yet. Looks incredibly good, and even better on the replays (why can’t we have all the shiny bits in races?). Little details like grass that actually seems to move as cars rush past, and people at the side of the track that wander about rather than just standing there watching. And all round general improvements to everything. Especially the load times and early progress with the cafe and those menu books. Plus the DualSense is very well used.
Apart from that, some more GTAV and the excellent Roguebook (plugging away at all the bits that make it harder at the end).
And because I can’t resist a sale, a couple of little VR games for a total of about 5 quid. The Assembly and Red Matter. Both fun little games with some wandering about and puzzles to solve.
Oh, and a helpful tip for people with Fancy Hats who struggle with it seeing where your glowing balls are… DVD cases are very shiny. Especially a bookcase full of them. As are all those white notes on a keyboard. I’ve fixed all my tracking issues with some black cloth and some string. In the traditional VR way of using whatever’s to hand to solve your problems. (You should see how my camera is mounted!)
