Apex Legends Mobile is coming out for iOS and Android next week on 17th May. It’s a ground-up rebuild of the game, made specifically for mobile, and even comes with a mobile-exclusive hero.
Apex Legends Mobile has been built with the touchscreen experience first and foremost in mind. This has led to some mobile-first optimisations and changes, but does come at the cost of there being no cross-play functionality to PC or consoles, and no cross-progression or inventory.
The base hardware that supports the game will be an iPhone 6S or newer with iOS 11, and Android phones with a Snapdragon 435 or equivalent, at least 2GB of RAM and Android 6.0
The lack of cross-play won’t be a bad thing considering that Apex Legends Mobile with lean on touch controls and an adapted UI for smaller screens. There won’t be any support for gamepads at launch, either, ensuring a levelled off playing field. For the first time, Apex Legends Mobile includes a third person camera option.
While this game will obviously leverage a lot of the content originally made for the home console game, it will also have unique mobile-only content and gameplay modes coming through. That includes new legends – the game will launch with a subset of those now in the main game – maps, progression and live events.
We’ve been hands on with the game already, so keep an eye out next week for our full thoughts on how one of the best battle royale games out there has managed to make the jump to the small screen.
