The iconic x-ray kill cams of the Sniper Elite series have been enhanced even further for Sniper Elite 5, packing them with more detail and adding new ways for them to be triggered. Here’s a trailer all about it.
Sniper Elite 5 takes the x-ray kill cam further than before with enhancements made to the physics and the visuals within the slow-mo system. The way that bullets can ricochet off bones has been rendered in greater detail, and there’s new detail being rendered through the skeletons, muscles, organs and sinew under each soldier’s skin.
Wanting to show this system off as often as possible, the kill cam can now be triggered by SMGs and pistols as well as with rifles and takedowns. That goes hand in hand with having iron sights for SMGs and pistols for the first time in the series.
One interesting new twist on this is that the kill cam can now be controlled by the player, who will have real time control over the speed of the cinematic and camera angles, once they’re triggered.
Of course, as with previous games, you can adjust the frequency of the kill cam being triggered, and it can be turned off completely if it grosses you out, or once the novelty has worn off.
Sniper Elite 5 is out in just over a week on 26th May, coming out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
We went hands on a couple weeks ago, writing in my Sniper Elite 5 preview that “I’m looking forward to playing more of Sniper Elite 5. I’ve always had a soft spot for the series and it’s slightly campy WW2 action, and it’s been great to see how each game in the series has evolved and grown. This entry seemingly leans toward making many smaller, more iterative changes to the formula, refining the much broader changes that came in Sniper Elite 4.”
