For the 10th anniversary of Dragon’s Dogma, Capcom went and announced that a full sequel Dragon’s Dogma 2 is now in production! There’s no platforms or release window announced, but Capcom hope this will buy them a tiny bit of respite from fans of the popular action RPG.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be led by the returning game director Hideaki Itsuno, with Dragon’s Dogma veterans Daigo Ikeno and Kenichi Suzuki also returning to the team.

The game is following in the footsteps of the vast majority of Capcom’s slate of upcoming games and use their RE Engine. This engine originally debuted with Resident Evil 7, but has shown a lot of adaptability over the years to power everything from Devil May Cry 5 to Monster Hunter Rise and upcoming games like Pragmata and Street Fighter 6. Across the board, these games have looked stunning, especially now that it’s enhanced with ray tracing on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC with the free Resident Evil upgrades that came out this week.

Itsuno hosted the 10th anniversary developer video, diving into the game’s origins and his inspirations that stemmed from a mixture of classic tabletop role-playing games to Street Fighter II’s combat. He got his opportunity to put his ideas into action only after finishing production of Devil May Cry 2, 3 and 4, delving into the fantasy setting for Dragon’s Dogma, weaving magical combat with grappling to larger foes, and the Pawn System of training up and sharing AI companions.

Dragon’s Dogma released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012 before the enhanced Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen arrived a year later and was ported to PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch over the following years. There’s long been desire for a sequel among the fanbase, no doubt furthered by the Netflix anime series that debuted in 2020, but the uniqueness of the Pawn System was neutered after servers were shut down in 2018.
