Terminator Survival Project announced during Nacon Connect

Nacon ended this summer’s Nacon Connect showcase with the teaser announcement of Terminator Survival Project. This working title is for the first survival game set in the Terminator universe and will be coming to PC and consoles in “the distant future”, so don’t expect to see much more on this for quite some time.

In development at Nacon Studio Milan, this is a brand new project and totally unrelated to the more linear Terminator games and adaptations we’ve seen over the decades. As a survival game, I’m sure we can expect plenty of crafting and even maybe some base building, but where many of this genre will drop you onto a lush but deadly island, a beautiful but deadly Norse afterlife, or in a thick but deadly jungle, this will send you to the hostile and deadly robot apocalypse. Lovely!

Nacon Studio Miland was created in May 2022 as the new label for Nacon’s Italian development teams. This includes RaceWard Studio which developed the motorbike racing game RiMS Racing, but is an umbrella for further teams that will branch out into different genres. It’s this second team that is developing Terminator Survival Project, and it’s possible that part of the expected lengthy development time stems from needing to hire more staff and build up the studio further.

Nacon, of course, published the last major Terminator game, Terminator: Resistance from Teyon. When Terminator: Resistance released at the end of 2019, it was in a rather sorry state. In our Terminator: Resistance review, Dom wrote: “Turning the Terminator franchise into an enjoyable game experience should be doable, but not on the budget Teyon have tried to do it on. Last-gen issues make this a time traveller that nobody wanted to come back.”

However, they sought to turn it around to a certain extent with a significant patch to improve the AI in the game, and there was also Terminator: Resistance Enhanced for the new generation of consoles and Annihilation Line DLC.

Why aren’t Teyon working on a Terminator sequel? Well, they’re far too busy with RoboCop: Rogue City, a fresh 80s action film FPS which is coming out in June 2023.
