Free-to-play shooter Arc Raiders will miss 2022 launch

Arc Raiders has officially been delayed and will miss its original 2022 launch window, developer Embark Studios has confirmed.

A message from the team – helmed by ex-Battlefield lead Patrick Söderlund – explains that they need more time to expand their upcoming co-op shooter. Several months after it made its debut during last year’s TGA show, we’ve heard about the game, so this news doesn’t come as a big surprise. In fact, it’s just one of many delays hitting the video games industry.

“We’ve made the decision to delay Arc Raiders to 2023,” Embark’s statement reads. “Arc Raiders is an ambitious game, and we will be using this extra time to expand the experience, and allow it to reach its fullest potential.”

We will be diving into more details as soon as we start to test the game more extensively with players. The excitement around Arc Raiders since its reveal has been so encouraging for us, and we truly appreciate your support

In a follow-up, Söderlund shed some light on the delay. Assuring gamers that the project is in good health, he highlights how Embark is now approaching its fourth anniversary, boasting more than 250 staff working on multiple titles.

One of these titles, codenamed Project Discovery, is a squad-based shooter we’ve seen glimpses of in the past. Progress on the game’s development is going smoothly, so much so that Embark had considered launching it alongside Arc Raiders in an ambitious two-pronged assault on the FPS gaming market.

Instead, the studio will focus on getting Project Discovery out the door first though a release date has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, Arc Raiders will be pushed back to 2023, again with no firm dates given. Söderlund stated that part of the dev’s plans to expand the game would be a dedicated PvP mode which is currently in the pipeline.

We’re hoping to see more of both Arc Raiders and Project Discovery as we march into the latter half of 2022.
