Nintendo has confirmed the theme for the first Splatfest to take place within Splatoon 3, with the three-way bout taking place from Friday 23rd September to Sunday 25th September (depending on your region). The question? Well, what would you bring to a deserted island?
SRL checking in—were you floored by the Splatfest announcement? Rest assured that we are diligently researching what WE would bring to a deserted island! Regardless of your choice, clear your calendar now for Friday, 9/23 starting at 5 PM PT through Sunday, 9/25 at 5 PM PT. pic.twitter.com/ysohezqi5i

The three sides in this are Gear, Grub and Fun, and we all know that Big Man with ‘Fun’ is going to be one heckin’ popular choice! Shiver and Frye don’t stand a chance!
The Splatfest will start at different times depending on the region you’re playing in. In Asia it will be at midnight UTC on 24th September, in Europe it will be at 8AM UTC (9AM UK time) on 24th September, and in America it will be at midnight UTC on 23rd September.
As in Splatoon 2, the final score of the weekend will be made up from three categories: popularity (worth 10 points), Open Mode Clout (worth 15 points) and Pro Mode Clout (worth 10 points). Popularity is the straight up percentage of popularity, while Cloud is determined by the average earned by each player.
However, the potential spanner in the works will be the new two-stage Splatfest. The first half will play out the same: matchmaking your team against another and tallying up the regional wins and losses. However, the second half now adds three-way battles into the mix, with the leading team defending the middle of the stage while two pairs from the other teams spawn on either flank. It’s a chaotic mix that we got to preview in the Splatfest World Premiere last month, with Nintendo saying that they will reduce the frequency of the Tricolor Turf War battles to keep things a bit more balanced.

“Splatoon 3 is a bit like your mum making your favourite meal when you head home for the holidays. It’s been a few years since the last game — while there have been some great improvements and additions, it’s the same old Splatoon we know and love, and that’s still pretty great.”
