Celebrating 10 years of Forza Horizon games, Playground Games has released a huge Forza Horizon 5 update to mark the 10th anniversary. There’s the return of classic cars from the series, new cosmetics, additional songs for the soundtrack, and they’ve even recreated all of the previous opening drive montages within Forza Horizon 5.
The anniversary update was announced back at Tokyo Game Show and is now out for the game across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. A special Festival Playlist will also be available from 13th October through 10th November. It’s during this playlist that you can relive moments from the series’ past through a five chapter story, letting you relive gameplay moments from across the series. Complete all five chapters and you’ll unlock the 2013 Dodge SRT Viper GTS Anniversary Edition, a new variant of the original Forza Horizon cover car.
Playground has also revived a whole mode from a previous game. The head-to-head Midnight Battles from Forza Horizon 3 are being brought to Forza Horizon 5, letting you challenge another driver with the prize being their car.
- 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1
- 1984 Honda Civic CRX Mugen
- 2003 Toyota Celica SS-I
- 2010 Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV
You’ll unlock a new Midnight Battle for every four victories in the Street Scene that you get from after the anniversary update has been installed, so a total of 16 race wins (plus the Midnight Battles themselves) are required to unlock them all.
A new Midnight Battle is unlocked for every four victories you have in the Street Scene following the release of the Horizon 10-Year Anniversary update – a total of 16 race wins are required to unlock them all.
Since Microsoft presumably had to open their chequebook to license some more cars, they’ve also popped over to the record store to pick up some classic tunes – music and car licensing have been a key factor in previous Forza games being delisted from sale after a few short years. Completing certain accolades in game will expand a playlist of tracks from previous games, and that includes the Horizon start screen music.
