Nintendo has announced Splatoon 3 Chill Season, the first big update for the ink-based multiplayer shooter. Chill Season will launch on 1st December with new maps, new weapon variants and something called Big Run. It is imminent!
There seem to be two new stages for multiplayer, the first with a Japanese village setting which is brand new, while the schoolyard stage is a return of Flounder Heights. X Rank Battles will also now be available for the ultra-competitive types out there.
There’s a bunch of new weapons here, with a new Roller that has an extra-wide brush head, a new Splattershot Pro, Dapple Dualies, Luna Blaster, Tentatek Splattershot and Mini Splatling.
And then there’s Big Run, a big map version of the Salmon Run co-op mode that will be a limited time event. When Big Run is active, the sky changes colour to red throughout Splatsville, and it seems that the event will transform the larger multiplayer maps to this mode. The example shown here took the themepark inspired Wahoo World and turned it into a Salmon Run map.
It certainly seems as though Nintendo has more varied plans for their post-launch support for this game. It’s a great sequel, and for our Splatoon 3 review, I wrote:
“Splatoon 3 is a bit like your mum making your favourite meal when you head home for the holidays. It’s been a few years since the last game — while there have been some great improvements and additions, it’s the same old Splatoon we know and love, and that’s still pretty great.”
