IO Interactive has announced that Hitman 3 will be renamed to Hitman – World of Assassination on 26th January 2023, but this is more than a symbolic change. Hitman – World of Assassination will also include access to all the contents of Hitman 1 GOTY and Hitman 2, and will be a free upgrade for all owners of Hitman 3.

Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 will be removed from sale at the same time – you’ll still be able to play them if you own them, of course – while the DLC content from Hitman 3 and Hitman 2 will be bundled up into HITMAN – World of Assassination Deluxe Pack. This DLC bundle includes the content of the Hitman 2 Expansion Access Pass, Hitman 3 Deluxe Pack and Hitman 3 Seven Deadly Sins Collection.

The new standard price for Hitman – World of Assassination will be $70, while the DLC bundle Hitman – World of Assassination Deluxe Pack will be a separate and additional $30 purchase.

If you already own some but not all of the DLC, then on Steam you’ll be able to ‘complete the set’ to the Deluxe Pack with an even split for whatever you own – if you have 2 DLC, then you’ll pay $10 for the remaining one. On other platforms, you’ll be able to snag each individual DlC for $10 each, which is a new and reduced price.

Again, this is all about simplifying the process of getting into the Hitman trilogy. Since Hitman 3 launched in early 2021, it’s been a convoluted mess of needing to redeem a free Access Pass for older games that you own, and the DLC for Hitman 2 and 3 being separate. Making this change is a good move for the community that’s still engaged with the game, as it means that, not only will some people get free stuff, but IOI can run in-game events safe in the knowledge that everyone has access to all the levels.

In fact, that’s exactly the reason that IOI makes in their announcement:

The changes have also been made with the Freelancer game mode in mind, where being able to easily access all locations from across the World of Assassination is paramount to maximising your enjoyment.

Freelancer mode is coming this month (likely on 26th January), taking all of the content found throughout the World of Assassination trilogy and remixing it into a freeform new gamemode that should a rewarding and replayable mode.

  1. Nice that they’ve simplified the process this way – but are the prices for standard and deluxe edition swapped in the article?

    • Nope, the prices are right, but I’ve clarified the wording now. The WOA bundle with the three games included is $70, and then Deluxe Pack is a separate DLC bundle without the games, and that’s $30.

Obviously, if you want the trilogy, you’ll want to grab Hitman 3 while it’s on sale now or wait for WOA to go on sale instead of paying full price at this point.
