Striking Distance Studios has releases The Callisto Protocol update 1.09 for consoles and PC. This latest patch comes tagged with a list of fixes and improvements for the sci-fi horror game, as well as one much-requested feature.
New Game+ will allow players to begin a new playthrough of The Callisto Protocol, carrying over progress and unlocking certain gear and upgrades much earlier. The developers have also promised a new “Hardcore” difficulty setting and a 2023 roadmap of post-launch content. This includes skin packs and death animations as well as new ways to play with an upcoming story chapter and game modes. Despite the hype leading up to its release, the Dead Space rival has reportedly underperformed according to publisher, Krafton.

The Callisto Protocol comes from Striking Distance, the new studio founded by Glen Schofield, who was executive producer on the original Dead Space. Naturally there’s plenty of common ground here, with many expecting that The Callisto Protocol is the spiritual successor to the Dead Space franchise (not to discount the Dead Space remake, of course!).
In our The Callisto Protocol review, we said, “we can confidently say Dead Space fans will delight in its bloody mutant-shredding carnage, Striking Distance Studios using the classic 2008 horror as a template while inventing new and interesting gameplay ideas of its own.”
