PS5 exclusive action RPG Forspoken features the large world of Athia with quite a bit to see and discover, and you can do so at super speed thanks to the game’s magical parkour! Once you start dashing through the world and get the first few magical battles under your belt, you probably won’t want to slow down to do menial video game tasks, or find yourself suddenly outgunned in a battle. So, to prepare you for Athian adventuring, we’ve cooked up five Forspoken beginners tips to get you off on the right foot.
Turn on Automatic Item Gathering
When first loading up Forspoken, make sure you go to the accessibility settings and turn on Automatic Item Gathering. This means you won’t need to stop and smell the flowers, as it were, and resources will automatically be collected as Frey moves around, saving you time having to stop and press a button to manually collect them.
It’s a real time saver when you think about gathering resources to go into item crafting, and especially if a lot of resources have been dropped after a fight!
Use Automatic Support Spell Switching
Frey gets access to a lot of secondary spells throughout Forspoken, complimenting her main attack with a variety of additional abilities. Every time you use a spell, it goes on cooldown, but all of the other spells that you have equipped are sitting there and ready to go. Now, you could open up the spell radial each time and select just the right spell for the job, but honestly it’s far more fun to have the game do this for you.
Open up the settings and the gameplay balance section. Here, switch on automatic support spell switching.
This means that Frey will almost always have another support spell available to her, allowing for a better flow of combat and for you to focus on dishing out main attacks and dodging enemies. The only downside is that the spell that comes up may not be the one you need, so you will still have to use the radial menu if you require a specific spell. After all, there is no point in using leach if Frey is not poisoned!
Time to get Crafting
As you gather resources, make sure you make use of crafting tables found in Cipal and at the safe houses you find around the world. In particular, increase the capacity of your medicine pouch and resource pouch as early as possible, allowing you to carry more of both – you will really need the health potions the further you get in Forspoken.
Also, make sure you regularly upgrade your cloaks and necklaces to boost their power level, as well as increase Frey’s health and defence.
Unlock the Locked Labyrinths
When you see a Locked Labyrinth, and you have the abilities to get to it, you should try to enter it as soon as possible. Doing so will give you the chance to earn a decent amount of experience and unlock new gear that will always be better than the first cloak you have. These are also good spots to fight groups of enemies to test out the spells you have earned, and Locked Labyrinths also provide some variety with sub-bosses too.
What are the orange crystals on cliff sides?
These are traversal points, but you cannot use them straight away. Frey isn’t able to leap and stand on them, so you shouldn’t bother trying – not that this will stop you!
Instead, you will have to wait until you have fought and defeated the boss in Praenost to unlock the Zip abilitiy. This will allow Frey to tether to these orange crystal outcrops, which in turn can let her scale the walls on which they are present, opening up more of the world to her.
And there you go. Our five quick beginners tips for getting the most out of Forspoken. You’ll pick up plenty of great looking magic abilities, get to zip around the world, and these tips should help you do that without having to stop and slow down.
