Warhammer 40,000: Darktide future seasonal content updates and the Xbox Series X|S launch of the game have been delayed, as developer Fatshark admits a need to address certain shortcomings in the game as it stands on PC.

While the game had plenty of positive reviews at launch, with caveats over performance and a need to grow after release similar to Vermintide 2, it now has just 34% positivity in recent reviews (from the last 30 days), often criticising game performance, decrying unfinished features and lacking content in comparison to their previous games, and more.

Fatshark will take the next few months to focus solely on addressing player feedback, overhauling the crafting system, making a more rewarding progression loop and continuing to polish the game – upcoming premium cosmetics have also been put on hold.

Here’s the full statement from Fatshark CEO and Co-founder Martin Wahlund, posted on Twitter:

We take enormous pride in our ability at Fatshark to deliver a game that millions can enjoy. That was what we set out to do with Warhammer 40,000: Darktide – to create a highly engaging and stable game with a level of depth that keeps you playing for weeks, not hours.

We fell short of meeting those expectations.

Over the next few months, our sole focus is to address the feedback that many of you have. In particular, we will focus on delivering a complete crafting system, a more rewarding progression loop, and continue to work on game stability and performance optimization.

This also means that we will delay our seasonal content rollout and the Xbox Series X|S launch. We will also suspend the upcoming releases of premium cosmetics. We just couldn’t continue down this path, knowing that we have not addressed many feedback areas in the game today.

Thank you for playing and providing feedback. We really appreciate it. It has and will continue to help shape the game we love.

In our review of Darktide, while noting the heavy cost of ray-tracing and there being just four classes at launch, we said, “Darktide is an absolute blast. Its heavyweight blend of melee and gunplay ensure that the flow of frantic runs into the hive city just keep on coming.”
