Splatoon 3 first DLC expansion heads back to Inkopolis

Splatoon 3’s DLC Expansion Pass has been revealed, with the first expansion heading back to Inkopolis in Spring 2023.

Wave 1 Inkopolis will take players back to the hub of Inkopolis, which was the site of the first two games in the series. This hub is a real throwback to the original game, with the two Squid Sisters hanging out, performing during Splatfests, and more.

It’s basically just an alternate hub world, with a full feature match for the regular hub in Splatoon 3. You can shop, hang out, and use whichever hub you prefer with no advantages or disadvantages.

Wave 2 Side Order was also teased, featuring a blank white world and an Octoling character that has many people speculating. We assume this will be a story-driven single player expansion, similar to Octo Expansion for Splatoon 2, set in an Octoling replica of the Inkling cities that’s strangely devoid of colour.

This announcement came just ahead of the third Splatfest for Splatoon 3, asking players to pick and fight for their favourite kind of chocolate. Running from 11th February to 13th February, which side will you fight for?

On the whole, this game is a great sequel and welcome continuation of Nintendo’s unique multiplayer shooter. For our Splatoon 3 review, I wrote:

“Splatoon 3 is a bit like your mum making your favourite meal when you head home for the holidays. It’s been a few years since the last game — while there have been some great improvements and additions, it’s the same old Splatoon we know and love, and that’s still pretty great.”
