Resident Evil 4 Merchant Spinel Trade Guide

Resident Evil 4 Merchant Trade Guide Header

As you make your way through the horrors of Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 4 you’ll find missions from merchant that will have you carry out a variety of tasks. Completing these rewards you with Spinels – but these jewels aren’t just for collecting or selling, they’re for trading! Here’s what that means and what you can get for your hard work.

Where can I trade Spinels?

The Merchant rewards you with Spinels for completing his side quest Merchant Requests – see our guide to Merchant Requests here! –and he conveniently offers to take them back off your hands in trade for some unique items. There’s a big list of them to gather, from treasure maps to attaché case customisation and consumables.

Can I unlock all trade items in a single run?

Simply put, no. There are more items that you can earn the Spinels for in a single play through, so you’ll need to choose what you want most in your first run. You can trade Spinels for consumables like herbs that you need in the moment, or play the long game and grab more powerful weapons.

Resident Evil 4 Merchant

Here’s the full list, but bear in mind that some of these unlock gradually as you progress through the story.

Merchant Trades – Unique Items

  • Treasure Map: Village – 1 Spinel
  • Treasure Map: Castle – 5 Spinel
  • Treasure Map: Island – 5 Spinel

These are fairly self-explanatory and reveal the location of all of the treasures in each area.

  • Punisher – 5 Spinel

A powerful handgun that can shoot through multiple enemies when upgraded. This became my handgun of choice throughout my multiple playthroughs.

  • Matilda – 10 Spinel
  • Matilda Stock – 12 Spinel

Another powerful handgun. I unlocked this quite late after other items so haven’t tried it out. The stock helps with recoil and accuracy.

  • Red 9 Stock – 9 Spinel

Helps with recoil and accuracy for the iconic Red 9 handgun.

  • TMP Stock – 8 Spinel

Essential upgrade for the sub-machine gun, stops the targeting waving everywhere.

  • Laser Sight – 10 Spinel

Attachment for handguns that helps with aiming. Essential purchase.

  • High-power Scope – 7 Spinel

Another hugely useful purchase. Can be attached to rifles to enable sniper mode.

  • Attaché Case: Black – 8 Spinel

Case customisation option that increases drop rate of large resources for ammo crafting.

  • Attaché Case: Red – 12 Spinel

Case customisation option that increases drop rate of red herbs.

Merchant Trades –  Replenishable Items (per each playthrough)

  • Exclusive Upgrade Ticket 1 – 30 Spinel
  • Exclusive Upgrade Ticket 2 – 40 Spinel

These expensive items unlock the ultimate upgrade for an individual weapon. Without these you have to fully upgrade every aspect of a weapon and then pay a large amount on top. Useful items but you’ll mostly be using these in later playthroughs where money is less of an issue.

  • Yellow Herb – 3 Spinel

Mix with a green herb to increase your maximum health.

  • Gunpowder x 10 – 2 Spinel
  • Gunpowder x 10 – 3 Spinel

Used for crafting but this drops pretty frequently from defeated enemies.

  • Yellow Diamond – 3 Spinel
  • Red Beryl – 4 Spinel
  • Elegant Mask – 2 Spinel
  • Chalice of Atonement – 3 Spinel

Treasures to sell to the Merchant. Not really an efficient use of limited Spinels.

Merchant Trades – Unlimited Items

  • Velvet Blue – 3 Spinel

This is treasure for selling.

  • Gold Token – 3 Spinel

You need 3 tokens to spin the gatcha machine in the shooting galleries for unlocking charms. Using gold tokens increases the chance of earning new charms that come with gameplay buffs and enhancements.
