Sony has announced the next PlayStation exclusive that will be making the jump to PC, and it’s the inter-dimensional platforming adventure of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The PS5 showcase will be showing up on Steam and the Epic Games Store on 26th July.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is widely regarded as the first game to really push the PS5’s SSD and ray-tracing chops, and it will be fascinating to see just how much further the game engine will be able to go with higher powered PC GPUs pushing the graphics.
The game will feature ray-traced reflections with a variety of quality levels that also add new ray-traced shadows for natural light in outdoor areas. Rift Apart will have support for ultra-wide monitors including support for 21:9, 32:9 and up to 48:9 resolutions for triple monitor setups. All of the gameplay and cutscenes will be supported through this.
Helping push higher resolutions and performance will be support for NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 2, Intel XeSS and Insomniac Games’ own Temporal Injection. There will be some scepticism over performance, given the state of some recent PC ports as they come to PC – The Last of Us Part I, for example – but hopefully these will help Rift Apart overcome the challenges.
You’ll be able to get the same haptic feedback as on PS5 when using a DualSense controller on a wired connection, but you’ll be able to play with any PC controller and there will be full mouse & keyboard support.
In our original PS5 review of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, we scored the sequel a mighty 9 out of 10:
“Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the PlayStation 5 showcase you have been waiting for. Instantaneous travel to worlds thanks to the SSD, thumping 3D audio, ray tracing through the gorgeous levels, and clever use of the DualSense bring the many locations to life. Paired with classic Ratchet & Clank gameplay, this game is a riotous feast of explosions, platforming, and fast paced action.”
