NetherRealm Studios has announced more characters for Mortal Kombat 1’s roster, split between core roster characters and those available through the Kombat Pack DLC. Starting with the core roster, the Umgadi trailer confirms Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka all as playable fighters. There is also a change to the Tarkatan people, no longer an individual race, but people that are inflicted by the disease Tarkat, which gives them the long teeth and blood thirst.
The trailer gives a history for Li Mei and Tanya too. Li Mei is the disgraced leader of the Umgadi, as Shao Khan was killed on her watch in this timeline. Tanya has stepped up to lead the Umgadi and protect the princesses. You can witness both of their fatalities in this trailer too, proving to be just as gory as any other fatality.
With the Kombat Pack reveal, The Boys’ Homelander has been reconfirmed as part of the DLC fighters group, but he is not the only superhero in this fight. Invincible’s Omni-Man has also been confirmed along with DC’s Peacemaker. There are also classic three classic Mortal Kombat characters in this Kombat Pack too, with those being Ermac, Takeda, and Quan Chi.
The trailer does not contain any gameplay of the characters in action, but it is easy to guess that there will be a lot of Homelander vs Omni-Man showdowns when people pick this pack up. The first DLC character confirmed for Mortal Kombat 1 was Shang Tsung, who is a pre-order bonus for Mortal Kombat 1. A Mortal Kombat 1 beta will be held in August, with access to this granted to those who pre-order the game, as well as getting Shang Tsung as a playable character.
Mortal Kombat 1, is both a reboot and a continuation for the popular fighting game series. It will launch on 19th September 2023 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
