Activision and Infinity Ward have released Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 update 1.22, which brings a slew of new features and content for Season 5.
COD fans can expect new maps, modes, and Operators, as well as a few surprises including the addition of animals companions to accompany you on the battlefield.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Update 1.22 | Season 5 Summary
Global Stability:
- The update focuses on reducing known crashes to improve stability across all platforms.
Battle Pass:
- A new character, Arthur, from Shadow Company, is introduced. He’s described as a legendary warrior with a mysterious background.
- Tactical Pets Companion feature is introduced, allowing operators to bring companions in multiplayer modes for companionship and finishing moves.
- A Battle Buddy named “Gwen” is added, providing real-time callouts for killstreaks, kills, and in-game events.
Operators:
- New operators like Oz, Graves, Mila, and Velikan are introduced, each with unique backgrounds and abilities.
Events:
- The Faction Showdown event pits Task Force 141 against Shadow Company. Players can switch factions and complete challenges to unlock rewards.
Celebration of Hip Hop:
- To celebrate 50 years of hip hop, free content and special bundles are available featuring Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and 21 Savage.
Gameplay:
- Movement enhancements include decreased slide time and increased slide velocity, along with improvements to jumping mechanics.
Weapons:
- New weapons are introduced, including the FR Avancer (Assault Rifle) and Carrack .300 (Sniper Rifle).
- Weapon balancing adjustments are made to various categories, aiming to level the playing field between weapons.
- Throwing knives are now customizable with Lethal Equipment Skins.
Equipment:
- Various adjustments to equipment, including reduced damage from Drill Charge, improved Recon Drone health bar updates, and more.
Perks:
- Adjustments to perks, such as Bomb Squad protecting against explosive equipment and visual cues for Quick Fix effects.
Audio:
- Audio balance improvements and audio indicator for pets complement the High Alert perk.
UI/UX:
- Updated CODHQ landing page, skin carousel in the lobby, and new Combat Detail Widget added for post-death information.
Vehicles:
- New vehicles introduced, including the MRAP and Dirt Bike, with distinct features and abilities.
Special Ops:
- Bug fixes addressing rewards, objective icons, and more in Special Ops mode.
Multiplayer:
- New maps like Punta Mar, Strike, Lounge, and Canal are introduced for various game modes.
- New modes include Havoc with dynamic modifiers, Big Capture the Flag, and Gunfight Variants.
- Numerous bug fixes and adjustments to enhance gameplay.
PC & Console Settings:
- Introduction of “Eco Mode” in graphics settings to provide power-saving options with varying frame rates and scene resolutions.
Want to know what’s coming next for Call of Duty? Activision have yet to host their usual preview though leaks point to this year’s sequel being Modern Warfare 3, a direct follow-up to MW2 that started as a standalone DLC before growing into its own larger game.
