Alone in the Dark delayed again to March 2024

THQ Nordic and developer Pieces Interactive have announced that they are delaying the release of Alone in the Dark to March 20th 2024, buying the team a little bit more time and some much needed rest around the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The team writes in the press release that “The well-being of the teams is a top priority, and both companies want to avoid any potential crunch over the Christmas holidays. Furthermore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive want to ensure that the game not only meets but exceeds the expectations of the community, especially with the outstanding performances of Hollywood stars David and Jodie as the main protagonists.”

That’s obviously a very welcome sentiment to see within the games industry at large, but also, more specifically, from THQ Nordic and parent company Embracer. Embracer has been going on some sweeping, company-wide layoffs and redundancies over the past few months, cancelling projects, looking to sell off parts of the business, and even just shutting down studios entirely. In some ways, this is a vote of confidence in Alone in the Dark and that Pieces Interactive can get the game over the line with a little more time.

Alone in the Dark Preview – Reimagining the original survival horror

In our preview for Alone in the Dark, Stefan said, “There’s great ambitions to Alone in the Dark, and on every level it sounds like Pieces Interactive are taking the right approach to reviving a landmark horror series for a modern era.”

Alone in the Dark allows players to play as two protagonists. Emily Hartwood who is played by Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer, and the classic Detective Edward Carnby, now reimagined and played by Stranger Things’ David Harbour. The game is set in the gothic American south in the 1920s, with a noir-setting and a touch of Lovecraft thrown in to the mix.

Alone in the Dark is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on 20th March 2024.
