Dragon Ball FighterZ PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions get a release date

Bandai Namco has announced that Dragon Ball FighterZ will officially launch on current-gen consoles later this month. Tomorrow, in fact.

The acclaimed 2D fighting game will finally arrive on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on February 29th, with a free upgrade available to anyone who currently owns Dragon Ball FighterZ on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

That’s not all, though. Bandai Namco has also confirmed that rollback network will also be introduced tomorrow, many months after it was officially announced during EVO 2022. If it’s not a term you are familiar with, rollback netcode has become effectively an industry standard for fighting games, helping to greatly smooth out online play through latency that is inherent to online gaming.

Released back in 2018, Dragon Ball FighterZ was a major hit for fighting game vets Arc System Works, followed by numerous updates and character additions. In our glowing review, Dave wrote:

“2018 is off to a strong start with Dragon Ball FighterZ an early contender for this year’s best fighting game.  By shattering some boundaries, Dragon Ball FighterZ has combat that’s more than worth getting into, but also a diverse roster and some phenomenal presentation. The Story Mode could have been improved if it were more streamlined, but it’s a mere blemish on an otherwise spectacular game.”

It’s not the first time the popular manga and anime sensation has been adapted into a fighting game. However, what sets this title apart is its incredible art style and the focus on 3-on-3 tag battles, allowing DBZ nerds to build and optimise their very own dream team before throwing down, either in the campaign mode or globally online.

FighterZ has been the series’ biggest hit in recent years though we’ve seen Bandai continue to experiment with the Dragon Ball license elsewhere with entries such as Kakarot and The Breakers.
