Creator Of The Condemned Series Wants It To Live On Through Indie Developer

If any of you out there remember the launch of the Xbox 360 like I do, you might remember there weren’t a ton of great games on day one. While that’s normal for the launch of a new console, sometimes it gets gamers to try a game or two they might not have otherwise been interested in, just to have a few things to play with their new piece of hardware. This is exactly how I stumbled across Condemned: Criminal Origins, the first of two games that would be a part of the Condemned franchise before it went silent in 2007 after the launch of Condemned 2: Bloodshot.

Now, many years later, the original creator of the franchise still owns the rights and he’s willing to hand it off to an indie developer to appease fans that keep asking him if another title is in the works. Jace Hall is the man we’re referring to, and since his plate is full for the foreseeable future, he recently put the call out on his Facebook page to see if there was any interest among the indie developer community to take over.

Deep thought..and question…

I helped to create a video game console franchise called “Condemned.” I currently own the entire franchise.

There have been 2 game titles released for the franchise, “Condemned: Criminal Origins” and “Condemned: Bloodshot” – they both did well, and I am consistently asked when a third game might be created.

Since I am focused on other things, and will be for quite some time, this franchise is just sitting there.

I am contemplating finding an interested and proven Indie development team AND PROVIDING IT TO THEM, so that they can take over the franchise and move it forward.

As an indie, it can be very hard to get marketing/media attention for a title that you work on. This franchise is already quite known, has market demand, and is in an innovative genre/category.

Should I explore this idea further? What say you all?

This post has been met with overwhelming praise in the form of almost 600 likes and over 400 comments. As a fan of both games, I really hope this goes through, and I think developer Red Barrels (creator of the recent horror game Outlast) would be a great fit.

We’ll see how this unfolds in the future but I suspect it won’t be long before we hear more about it. Until then, take a trip back in time with us and check out our review of Condemned 2… from seven years ago.

  1. I really enjoyed both titles and would probably pick up a third.

  2. I fired up Condemned 2 last year and was surprised to the find the online servers were still running!

    • It had multiplayer?

      • It did but it was terrible. I very rarely got a game and when I did, it was rather unenjoyable.

  3. I loved Condemned I still have the first for Xbox 360 as I will return to it for fun. Would get a 3rd one if possible and Red Barrels Developer would be fantastic Matt :)
