Marvel’s Midnight Suns gameplay has been released by 2K Games and Firaxis. The footage shows a mix of elements players will become familiar with in the game including wandering the halls in which the superheroes reside, the different cards that can be equipped for battle, and footage of the battles themselves playing out. Much like Firaxis’ other games such as XCOM, the battles will be turn based.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns features a brand new superhero The Hunter, who is resurrected to fight against Lilith, mother of demons. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is described as a “single-player focused experience” and your customizable character happens to be the offspring of the big bad, Lilith. It’s going to be a tactical RPG where you not only fight alongside fellow superhero’s, you live with them as well. Your relationships off the battlefield will effect those on it.

The game is an adaptation of 1992’s Rise of the Midnight Sons cross-over event in the Marvel comics universe and will feature twelve playable characters, some familiar, some less so. Magik from the X-Men and Nico Minoru from the Runaways are two such characters.

When the game was revealed Jake Solomon, Midnight Suns’ creative director at Firaxis Games, said:

“It’s a story that hasn’t been told in 30 years now… since the comic came out,” comments Solomon. “It gave us two things, right? One, it gave us a new villain, which I love Lilith as a villain. It gave us all these new characters to talk about, some supernatural characters that I think players won’t be as familiar with. And then of course the more popular characters we could pull down to this sort of darker side of the Marvel universe.”

Marvel’s Midnight Suns will be released in March 2022 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S. Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
