Hey all this is for the wastelands out there who may be in need of a help running a succesfully settlements and ensuring the settlers have enough beds, food, roof and weapons in case anything unexpected happens.
Wasn’t sure who has this game. I have just started this on Saturday and so far loving it. Still learning to run the place on power and need more resources. So far I have assigned each settler a job – Farm, Defense and gathering resources.
I now have 4 Settlements.
How is your progress going?30/11/15 at 13:07 #257105
I’ve not actually bothered creating a decent settlement yet – have had a brief mess about and then only doing what I’ve needed to do to complete quests. I’m intending to have a decent crack at building after I’ve finished the 2nd ending and all the mission trophies.
At present I’ve unlocked 27 settlements during 72hrs-ish of game time.30/11/15 at 18:47 #257132
That is a lot of settlements01/12/15 at 15:10 #257201TSBonymanParticipant
I’ve just filled out two so far, Sanctuary where i’ve done most of my building and the Drive-In where i’ve done the basic minimum. Both are at 80%, with about 10 settlers each. Apparently, the settlements are more likely to get attacked if they do not have any defences in place – so completed settlements probably won’t see any action – which is kind of disappointing. It’d be nice to think that at some point in the game you would have to actively defend your settlement from an attack.
Also be careful building stuff and then scrapping it – you get less scrap back than you put in initially so better to store something you built to reuse later on instead of scrapping it.
You can hold L1+X and use the left stick to adjust height when placing objects, and you can hold R1+X and use left stick to move object towards/away from you while placing it.
Incidently, something i didn’t realise at first but you can scrap the radioactive barrels at the Drive-In to remove the radiation from the pool in the middle.
Sadly i now have the blurred-vision glitch which means i might not be able to play anymore until it’s patched – or go back to my saved game from two weeks previous.. :/03/12/15 at 10:27 #257317
Loving Fallout and sorta Completed the Minutemen and retook a Settlement that I love building around so that is my next focus. Although I have hit a bug and I am not happy about it. My Sanctuary happiness went down (was 85%) due to no water and no beds (18 folks) I fast travel to find out what is going on….. and there isn’t!!!! All 18 beds are there and enough water. So continued to do main story or side missions and it happened again!. No idea what is wrong but then again it’s Bethesda. My happiness in Sanctuary is 55% which is really poor considering I have put a lot of work and effort in the place including electricity and a few stalls for weapons, Armour, Clothes, Food and Medic!
On the bright side I have 4 Power Armour stored safely and it is beginning to look like an army of Iron Man xD03/12/15 at 12:17 #257326
That’s a pain about the bug for sure. I’ve got 6 power armour frames in various states of completion but I haven’t actually used them except for when you get the first suit and then just to fast travel them back to sanctuary. I think I was too cautious about using up the fusion cores to start with and now I’m high enough level (60) to not really need them. I don’t really like the power armour HUD either.03/12/15 at 12:32 #257328TSBonymanParticipant
Not sure why the settlement happiness is fluctuating like that Del but i’ll keep an eye out for it. I have 4 power armor too and i thought there were only around ten in total to collect but i’ve seen where some folks had up to 17 of them! I haven’t really used them for anything yet but i’m sure they’ll come in handy later on.
I’ve been told that if i can get a critical head injury and then use a stimpak it might fix the blurred vision glitch. Suggestion was to find some low cover and hope to get hit in the head … now i’m thinking maybe i’ll don some power armor but leave the helmet off and then head out looking for trouble.. All going well i’ll have a chance to try that out tonight but knowing my luck i’ll die before i get the appropriate injury! :)03/12/15 at 14:37 #257332
I think that if you can pickpocket a fusion core from someone wearing power armour then they have to get out of it. This may explain why people have lots of suits.03/12/15 at 17:57 #257349
TSBonyman try sleeping for 24hrs for head blurry. You never know.
Will update about my settlements.04/12/15 at 01:02 #257394
Great news found the fix for the stupid bug in my Sanctuary. DO NOT FAST TRAVEL in the Settlement where you can be in a building mode (surrounding green ring, go past that and you can fast travel outside the building area) just a heads up. My settlement is now 72% so slowing climbing up.
Another great news for me as I got really lucky but deserve it due to that stupid bug lol. Basically at the earliest game I came across MinuteMen and did some jobs and decided to free roam for fun and came across more settlements and did their jobs. After hours and hours of playing main missions, I decided to do side missions/factions. I started the jobs for the MinuteMen for the settlements that I already cleared. Now for the best bit. I have scavenged all junks, picked all locks and hacked terminals and gained XP….. I went through them all again except for the enemies as they remain dead but had to picklock and hack again (towards my XP and trophy) and scavenged where I already have searched (it should be emptied just like the already dead enemies) Unless it was meant to happen then never mind) xD So easy fast levelling up and double the scraps for all settlements ^^04/12/15 at 08:19 #257434
I’ve done a ton of free roaming Del and whenever any mission, be it main story, side quest or misc, leads you back the items and enemies mostly respawn. I’ve even found this in areas marked ‘cleared’. I have a feeling that they respawn over a period of time but haven’t tested that theory.04/12/15 at 08:46 #257435
If that is the case then great news as there is no need to grind out level 50 and just replay the favourite cleared sections on the map. But like you said will need to test that report here =)
cannot wait to finish work at 5pm and continue this bad boy all night all weekend xD04/12/15 at 10:50 #257471
I’m now lvl 64 by doing regular quests/exploration and no grinding at all. As I’ve done the majority of missions I decided to max out the Idiot Savant perk and it appears quite often even though I have 7 Int. The little tune for it is funny too.04/12/15 at 13:19 #257496
I’ve just got the Platinum after getting the last trophy – Benevolent Leader.
There appears to be loads of different advice and tips online as to how to grab this easily. I’ll post a link to a guide I followed pretty much to the letter which took me around 3 hours from having just 2 settlers and 32% happiness to the magical 100% and trophy.
I’m happy to explain exactly what I did to anyone who’s struggling :)04/12/15 at 19:08 #257512
Well done Carrot. Don’t know If I can get the Platinum as it requires more playthroughs unless I do manual saves but knowing that I will mess it up.
