It only seems right to have a topic on a game full of Zoids.

Anyone got any useful tips? Any opinion on whether its better to get some decent armour first or better weapons (Shadow style)?

There’s nothing worse than being stuck in the office for another 2 hours when I could be doing something more constructive, like killing robotic dinosuars!

I’ve been getting really bad withdrawal being stuck at work too!

After about 13 hours I think I’m being to ham fisted with the hunting, usually just shooting endless fire arrows at their faces. Gonna try to be more sneaky and aim for parts more often, I think it’s worth getting to beefier armour to start with though just to save frustration when you inevitably get charged down.

I’ve also bought every map and big weapon upgrade I can afford whenever I see a merchant. It’s gotta be worth mowing down every animal you come across too, the bones seem really rare drops but are needed for the bigger inventory capacities. Also, keep zoid hearts, I think they are needed for the best armour purchases.

I’ve also played until 1am the last two nights, then having robot hunting dreams in mountainous plains. Normal?

In the words of Olive… You’re not alone – I played all day yesterday & ended up chasing zoids in my sleep & meeting some weird tribe.
I’m about 30+ hours in now and I’ve only done a handful of the main missions, instead been hunting racoons, collecting flowers, finding vantage points, completing side missions/quests & exploring 3 cauldrons so far.

I’ve got 2 shadow bows but need a Tramplers heart for the 3rd. The shadow rope caster is pretty cool too.
As for armour, I can’t remember what its called but its the best all-rounder outfit I’m wearing with a few mods.

Warning – Don’t make the same mistake I did, wander into the desert & pick a fight with a storm bird – got may arse kicked & had to run away.

Hah, I made that (Stormbird) mistake with those three Bellowbacks east of Devil’s thirst! I waded in all confident, got comprehensively spanked and just escaped with no health, potions, ammo or kills. I don’t think I’d upgraded anything at the time, or used the modifications, but in the last few days I’ve gone quite far west and concentrated on hunting for parts to upgrade the inventory capacity.

I haven’t seen a Trampler yet, I’ve only just come across my first Thunderjaw which I had to run and hide from! Whilst hunting I’ve been slowly erranding my way to Meridian to pick up the story so looking forward to getting there tonight. Only two Cauldrons done so far but I really like them, the close quarter boss fights are great, and I’ve just got my second Tallneck.

How are you finding the side missions Dave? I’ve only done a handful as I come across characters, rather than the village based ones. I’m mindful of my trophy OCD so want do the relevant ones to get the allies on side, is it worth going back and doing all of the ones I ignored in the Nora territory before I find loads more elsewhere?

All in all, I’m not minding the side missions at all. There’s a few dull missions where you’re tracking peoples foot steps etc, but then there’s some which have been pretty interesting and led to some cool fights against other tribes/criminals etc. I’m not sure what difference it will make later on with allies & the outcome of the game but I do seem pretty infamous now.

Thought I’d do a quick side mission last night about midnight before I retired which turned into an epic fight against a RockBreaker – Took about 4 attempts to defeat it. The only way I could defeat it was to scatter shock ropecaster traps all over the place to slow it down, shoot off some components with tear arrows and pound it with hard point arrows too, all whilst continuously rolling around like some mad acrobat. I walked away with no health & got down to my last medicine potion.

Eek, not heard of the RockBreaker before, I’ll stay away like the massive pussy that I am. Sounds like we need to record something battles, it’s probably hard to make them look sexy but they’ll be gripping to watch. I’ll be careful which side quests I take on then, but I’ll definitely plough through a few now. Just managed an hour while my family were out, made my way to Meridian, it’s so weird being inside a big medieval city after about 25 hours of wilderness and mountains! Guerilla have nailed this game, the atmosphere and character of the world is excellent.
