Yeah I think you’re right, because PW made you pick the squads for deployment man for man you really got annoyed when your best rated ones with rare skills got shot. After that, and losing a tank, I became very protective!
I agree the S ranking requirements aren’t great in PP nor in GZ, I’d describe them as awkward since they’re now based on a few traditional things like no restarts but also on the final score. I guess that makes it more flexible, I’ve been spotted and still gotten an S, but I’m not used to how it works yet. 4 got it right, finish quickly and quietly and don’t kill anything.
I’ve just started Chapter 2 and I feel a bit disappointed that none of my crazy theories about Big Boss, Quiet, Ahab and Eli are panning out. I’m enjoying the story through the cassettes but their release is awkwardly paced and lumpy. I don’t like where Huey is going (didn’t Hal criticise his grandad in MGS1, not his dad?) and I want Big Boss to react more, more emotion and rage! If the excellent Mr Hayter is playing the game I’d bet he’d say the same.
I’m wondering if or when things will improve, gameplay wise PP is perfect and my only complaint is about the dodgy servers, but story wise it’s not grabbing me by the balls like all its predecessors have, the brief GZ and the dodgy non canon PO included.14/09/15 at 11:48 #252427
The story, it’s kinda failing to prevent me from looking up certain things to confirm my theories. :-/ Any other MGS game and I would wait for the story to confirm it myself. The S rating requirements are kinda BS. I mean, I didn’t even get the damn fox rating on that mission despite having no alerts! It played me like a damn fiddle!
Apparently, Ishmael is addressed and I will confess, I am still very curious to finding out how the man on fire came to be. Only realised that the potentially psycho Mantis kid had a name yesterday despite the name being in the opening credits. Also, for what seems to be a story about revenge, there’s not much build up to revenge. It also seems to retcon GZ. For example, That character has no right to appear in PP due to the events of REDACTED and the unfortunate side effects of REDACTED.
Ok, does any one mind if we start using chapter 1 spoilers? The thread would have to be renamed MGS V THe Phantom Spoilers or Spoilers galore but I think most have gotten past chapter 1. Apparently, the side ops do contain a bit of side story but I hate lazy side quests in games. It seems that it’s a bit lazy with the Side Ops in PP. I was expecting them to be more like GZ’s side ops where it had a story in every single one. Or a comprise of 80% story, 20% filler ops.14/09/15 at 22:05 #252481
Ah mate I can’t wait until I can understand all that redacted stuff! I think maybe we should start a new spoilerific thread of plot stories and save that for when we’ve finished the game. Got to be honest I’d rather not hear spoilers and I feel bad for chatting about the end of chapter 1, there’s so much plot that unlocks and different times that I think it would be easy to drop a massive bomb! New thread?14/09/15 at 23:28 #252483
I have a confession to make, I don’t care about spoiling MGS V for myself due to the bare bones story. :( This annoys me as i’m not invested enough to avoid spoilers. The mere fact knowing that Chapter 2 is filler ruins it for me and screw it, i’m googling the plot. Goddamn it, Kojima! You messed it up! If Hayter voiced snake and there was more things to keep my attention, then I wouldn’t end up doing this but goddamnit! :(14/09/15 at 23:36 #252484
Are you FECKING SERIOUS!? MGS V is unfecking finished!? The goddamn missing link and it is unfinished!? What the *****! Also, ending is crap. The rest of the plot is just meh. :-( Oh and turns out I already have the damn ending spoiled before launch thanks to Mega 64’s MGS V spoof. Just…..
Kojima, you really dropped the ball. I mean, you really, really did drop the ball. I mean, this is Mass Effect 3’s level of bad. In fact, it’s worse as there was no hint at it. How did you go from tying up loose ends to creating the mother of loose ends!?
Someone create a spoilers thread as I need to vent.17/09/15 at 07:40 #252683
Got to be honest mate I didn’t read everything you wrote, just so I can keep as many surprises for myself as possible. Your rage is evident though! Have you finished the game then? I’m on episode 35 but I’m moving house on Tuesday so I’m not gonna get to play any more for weeks! ARGHHH!! I’m so desperate to finish the story and find out what’s really going on!18/09/15 at 13:56 #252784
Even Bethesda knows that horse armour as DLC is a bad idea and they had a valid reason for doing it the first time around. They were very new to the whole DLC aspect instead of releasing expansions and horse armour was a mistake that they learned from. Oh and they’re trying to ruin Eva and the Boss by using their unzipped outfits. Both, taken out of context. Both, were excellent characters and the Boss only unzipped her outfit to make a point about her scar. Eva, was trying to seduce Snake. Oh and the traditional Tuxedo for Big Boss has been stripped out of the game to flog back to us.18/09/15 at 20:30 #252810
Yeah, they’re all a bit wank. This is Konami trying to be more like EA and Ubisoft, no doubt we’ll see them push a lot of rubbish cosmetic DLC. So you’ve called out of love with Metal Gear then Steven? :(18/09/15 at 21:26 #252812
Sadly, MGS V is the first game that I am not interested in playing until the end due to the plot being rather disappointing and Big Boss’s journey to becoming a villain is just not there. I still love the franchise and in my eyes, MGS V is the weakest in terms of plot. Hell, even Peace Walker knew it had nothing between the end of the main story and the ending thus having us replay the same boss battles to build Zeke. MGS V, an entire fricking chapter consisting of replays and some, are effing bs is just crap. I do wonder if this was a factor into Kojima getting the hell out of Konami or if this is their attempt at trying to claw back the £80million budget that they gave MGS V.
Hell, I’ve gone from playing the hell out of it to short bursts and well, i’m starting to notice a small pattern. It also fails to take full advantage of an open world. :-/30/09/15 at 09:14 #253454
I’m on episode 42 now and I’m struggling to see how the game gets such high review scores. I’m now not entirely positive that massive story chunks are coming my way in the last 10% of the game but I’m holding a little bit of hope just in case! Nearly there now! Where are you guys up to?30/09/15 at 09:41 #253455
Not played much more mate, still between missions 15-20, taking a break. Will head back to it soon though, probably when the multiplayer gets introduced next month! :)30/09/15 at 12:12 #253466
I’m looking forward to Online, even though I’ll definitely be shit at it! I really enjoyed my brief time with the last MGO but I honestly have no idea how to play it, I was awful at sneaking, not accurate enough at shooting, I was only middlingly bad at standing at a corner waiting to slap people as they walked by, I was terrible at avoiding being slapped harder back and getting killed haha. Maybe I’m better off sticking with GTAO.30/09/15 at 12:31 #253468
Yeah, I’m not sure how well I’ll do but it’ll be fun trying!30/09/15 at 13:51 #253469
At least there’s no Online trophies to get frustrated over!30/09/15 at 14:10 #253470
I know, was so pleased about that ;)
