I’ve had a few of those parking scrapes too – also don’t try to fly through stone arches. I got stuck and couldn’t land or get away so i had to reload.
I spent a while just flying around a couple of the nicer planets, looking out for those scanner beacons.. then i would scan for a shelter, which would very often give me a drop pod location. Found a few that way and the last one when i was flying away i actually spotted another drop pod on the ground nearby , and then another right after.. 24 slots in my suit now :)
Also many multitools have been thrown at me so i’m up to 24 slots there too.
Having spent most of my cash on the last suit upgrade, i decided to go for one of the crashed ships as a cheap way to get the extra (20th) slot. Damn me if i didn’t pick the one which needed the most repairs and with resources that were scarce on that particular planet. And when i do get everything sorted i’ll probably get shot down by pirates again…
It’d be fine if i could trade everything of value whilst on the planet but in one star system i was in there were no trading posts besides the space station. Every base was either infected with some gloop or had steel doors, which i broke into just to check anyway. One trading post (in space) between 4 planets and pirates loitering about… not a good combination.
I figured out how to upload 100% complete discoveries – It eventually occurred to me to click on the banner in the middle which alternates between telling you how much you’ve completed and telling you to upload to receive payment. Yes, it doesn’t look clickable but it is.
i’m following Atlas path but i haven’t seen a whole lot of them and still haven’t found an Atlas Pass, possibly because i’m pottering away doing my own thing and possibly because i haven’t quite figured out the universe map yet. I may have opted for a star sytem with more planets over the one i was being directed to.. *shrugs*
I had my first crash this eve (game not spaceship) but i save regularly so i’m not too concerned, so long as it doesn’t happen too often.16/08/16 at 09:50 #272680
The Atlas Pass will come to you, eventually. Just follow the path. The galaxy map opens up on the path you should be following, so just open it, use the right stick to follow the next jump, and you shouldn’t end up in the wrong system.
And the 100% discoveries thing is kind of broken. You can click on it for at least 1 planet (the “A Scanner Darkly” trophy should pop up then), but after that it may or may not work. It works on 100% with no creatures planets too. But it may stop working.16/08/16 at 11:07 #272698
I’ll keep an eye out for the Atlas Pass, suit slots at max now which means i can swap valuables there when weathering pirates, speaking of which my newly-fixed ship proved more worthy against the next pirate i met.
I’ve done 3 planets 100% and got paid, but another system where i’ve done 70-80% is reporting 100% done whilst i’m out of that system, so possibly just a visual error. I have a feeling that if i return there the % complete will correct itself.18/08/16 at 14:10 #272882
Home internet was down last night, technicians say 3 working days to fix, which from experience means it might just fix itself any moment..
In the meantime i spent 2 hours revisiting one planet trying to track down some previously discovered beasties so i could snap a few pics. They were the weirdest ones i’d seen so it was worth tracking them down but it wasn’t easy to find them again. Will post a pic on the community portal when i get my home internet running.
Oh, and i discovered the exo suit doesn’t stop at 25 slots! :)19/08/16 at 10:45 #272944
Internet still down so i’ll try posting a few pics here..
First up this beauty… Rexus Snootius..19/08/16 at 10:51 #272945
Good that worked, here’s a few more..
I call this one “What the i don’t even”..
Then i found some plants in a cave which i hadn’t seen before, containing Albumen pearls worth big money but as soon as you grab one the sentinels come chasing… best practise is open a few plants first then grab all the pearls in one run and leggit to your ship!
And finally, Landscaping with grenades.. :)19/08/16 at 14:30 #272949
Ah, albumen pearls. Opened those things up expecting a facehugger to jump out at me. But no, valuable pearls instead.
They do however, as you rightly said, instantly attract sentinels. However, if you’re lucky, they’re in a nice cave and the sentinels won’t notice you there. Sentinels won’t appear in caves, and with luck they’ll just hunt around for you and not be able to find you while you’re busy gathering valuable pearls. Made lots of money that way. Still never seem to have enough money to buy a decent ship that doesn’t look like someone strapped a seat onto some engines and decided to bugger off for a long lunch thinking they’d done their job in starship design to a suitable standard.
Or you can just run away. That’s always an option.19/08/16 at 14:47 #272950
I’ve seen sentinels in caves before so i didn’t hang around this time but i’ll test that out again later ;)19/08/16 at 20:08 #272951
It may depend on some luck. I guess the important thing is where the sentinels spawn. If they appear right outside the entrance to the cave, they’ll spot you. And stealing albumen pearls seems to attract the more dangerous sentinels. So run away is your best option there.
Sometimes they spawn the other side of the cave wall and fly around failing to spot you. In which case, gather away and then wait for them to give up.
Could it be they spawn as close to you as possible? Which involve a cave wall in the way. Or it might be a cave entrance between you and the closest point outside.
I’ve not seen them spawn in a cave though. They may fly in to a cave, but I’ve not seen them appear inside.20/08/16 at 13:52 #272963
As expected my internet was working again last night – then i got a msg from ISP today saying sorry for the delay and that they will investigate the fault after the weekend.. smh.. Anyway i didn’t get to play last night as i had to catch up with what i’d been missing last few days.
Is there any overall consequence (besides the temporary wanted level) for attacking sentinels? That’s the main reason i’ve mostly avoided attacking them so far apart from a handful along the way. Also sometimes they seem to become confused when two or more are attempting to scan you at once, the wanted level disappears but they still hound you for a bit, repeatedly scanning and bumping into you. Oddly intimidating.20/08/16 at 17:09 #272964
TSB, as far as I’ve experienced the only consequence for being aggressive is death and having to get travel from your last save point to get your stuff back. I don’t think the sentinels remember you and as far as I know after the couple of dozen I’ve shot down my Atlas quest hasn’t been negatively affected, I didn’t want to google this though just in case :)
So I’ve been working on jumping for Atlas Stones, got six so far! I’ve found a nice planet in a beautifully colourful system so I’m gonna stop here for a bit and farm crashed ships to get one with lots of slots and maybe some valuable materials. I also wanna get a v2 Atlas Pass, is the only way to keep searching Outposts?21/08/16 at 15:08 #272979
Cool Ron, as the sentinels motivation is unclear i thought it might be revealed later whether they were a good/evil force. But i won’t take any prisoners from now on ;)
I have yet to get an atlas stone so prehaps MrYD could field that question..
I’ve just jumped to my 4th system – still unsure about the galactic map. Can freeroam, follow path to centre or other highlighted waypoints but still don’t know which is the Atlas path. So i chose one of the waypoints for my 4th system and have finally met a new race after 50 hours playing lol, the Gek. Nice planet too so i guess i’ll keep exploring..
Also found some “Lemmium”, brilliant.21/08/16 at 16:31 #272980
The v2 or v3 Atlas Pass seems a lot harder to get than the v1. I’ve not managed it yet. Outposts seem to be the way though. Rumours of people finding one after half a dozen outposts. And people not finding them at all too. So luck is involved. And hopefully you can find the v3 first as it allegedly works for all doors, v1, 2 or 3.22/08/16 at 05:22 #273031
I think I’m one of those who is less lucky, thanks though! On my ship scavenging travels I found something pleasingly 90’s looking in orange with blue go-faster stripes, I’ve become irrationally attatched so I’m gonna keep it and forget the pass/upgrade hunt for now and go back to chasing stones.
I’ve not been very good at doing upgrades so I think I’m gonna sit down with a guide and get in my head around the system. Dunno if you guys have found this but I’m now receiving loads of technology unlocks that I’ve already got but never built, maybe I need to craft them to start getting better stuff?22/08/16 at 15:18 #273059
1.05 update today seems to have fixed a lot of bugs that were causing the game to crash. Managed to play for a whole hour with no problems at all, which has been unusual lately.
