When I purchased the Pre-order edition for BF4 on the PS3 with the China Rising download code, I assumed it would carry over to the PS4 edition once upgraded… I was wrong. Although EA didn’t specifically state this, from their transfer stats/upgrade PS3 to PS4 spiel this is the impression I got.
As much as I love BF4 I think this is really poor on EA’s behalf as it will cost another £12 to re-purchase the China Rising Map Pack which was originally one of the incentives for me to purchase the PS3 pre-order edition, then upgrade to the PS4. I believe most people including me thought the original CR code was locked to your PSN ID or Origin Account so it wouldn’t be a problem.
Anyway, if anyone else is having this problem and find it handy for some reason or other, I got the online chat I had with customer services emailed to me.
Anna: Thanks for contacting EA Customer Experience, my name is Anna. How may I assist you today?
you: Hi, I am unable to download the China Rising map pack for Battlefield 4 on the PS4 after redeeming the code on the PS3. I was told it should transfer over.
Anna: I’m sorry to hear that you’re unable to download the DLC, let me see what I can do to help you out resolve this concern. May I please have your First Name, Origin Email Address and PSN ID?
you: First name is **** – **************** – *************
Anna: Thank you! May I know what is the version of the game that you purchased when you have it for PS3?
you: Battlefield 4 PS3 Pre-order.
Anna: I see then. Thank you! To confirm, you have gone through the upgrade is this correct?
you: Yes, this is correct
Anna: Okay then. Just for a quick verification over your account. May I please have the answer for your Origin Security Question “Who did you see play at your first concert?”
Anna: Thank you! My apologies for the confusion for this matter however for this case I fear that the upgrade does not carry over the DLC that you have for PS3.
you: I’m pretty sure EA confirmed this will transfer over as to why I ordered the Pre-order edition for the PS3 enabling me to receive the code then upgrade to the PS4 edition.
Anna: I do understand your input about this concern however I fear that for this situation. The DLC only carries over the premium membership is active and the game is not upgraded from PS3 to PS4.
you: Well is it possible to receive another China Rising code as I did have the opportunity to purchase a pre-order edition of the PS4 BF4 but didn’t realise it was necessary resulting in me upgrading to a normal edition as I had already bought the PS3 pre-order edition? It appears that this is an issue which wasn’t explained very clearly and could have been avoided.
Anna: I would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue however I fear that we may not be able to grant your request as the code that you first received is for PS3 only.
you: And the fact I had the opportunity to choose the pre-order BF4 edition to avoid this but didn’t due to poor communication/publicity from yourselves is irrelevant? If you are not willing to help with this is it possible for discount towards the premium BF4 pack which will enable me to re-purchase the China Rising pack amongst other updates?
Anna: I’ll take note of your feedback however as of the moment there are 2 options for gaining access over the DLC. One is getting it separately and Second is associating Premium for your account. Is there anything else that I may assist you with?
you: It was an actual question rather than feedback but I take it the answer is no. So no, there is nothing else which you can assist me with. Thankyou
info: Your chat transcript will be sent to ****************** at the end of your chat session.
So there you have it.20/12/13 at 10:04 #208107Severn2jParticipant
Thats good to know, I was just looking at a deal Shopto has for the PS3 version that includes the DLC for £24.85 and was considering getting it and upgrading to the PS4 version. (link below for anyone interested). Looks like the DLC wont transfer over..
Incidentally, does anyone else find the false “terminally helpful, but not really” attitude of these companies actually more offensive than just a regular “fuck you” from them? It makes them seem dishonest as well as unhelpful..20/12/13 at 10:25 #208109DuffyBoxParticipant
Ah, unlucky. It’s easy to get caught out with stuff like this. Quite frustrating too considering how easy you’d think it would be for them to make the codes work cross-gen, at least as long as you stick to the same account.
