It’s been ten long years since I last bought a Star Wars game and I can’t wait to get my virtual mitts on a blaster again. Is anyone else experiencing a little bit of inappropriate Star Wars excitement? STAR WAAAAARS! YEEEEHAAAAA!!

Yep, all the way. Although a lot of people are saying that Battlefront is a bit shallow in gameplay and it’s a little lacking in content, I can’t help but be super excited for it because it’s Star Wars and Star Wars done right. I’m so tempted to play the ten hours I get on EA access, but I fear that if I do it will be like opening a Christmas surprise early and spoiling everything. I mean if I want to play beyond the ten hours that’s it, I have to wait to buy the game (can’t quite afford it yet) and when I do, it will have that ruined surprise feeling if I play that 10 hours. I’m thinking maybe forget the ten hours access, and get the game on some sort of offer just before Christmas and play it all new and fresh.
As for the film it’s foremost on my radar. I can’t wait for it. Hoping to get some Star Wars goodies at Christmas, plus I’ve got an awesome calendar on the way and I’ve been eyeing up a fantastic sandtrooper headset on GAME which would serve as a great upgrade to my current headset.
By the way, Congratulations on the arrival of the twins!18/11/15 at 15:36 #256493
Thanks dude, very kind of you :)
Just read this article, as a former Goldeneye and Time Splitters split screen addict it sums up almost everything I want from Battlefront. Yes!

Dude, you had twins? Amazing news – congratulations!!19/11/15 at 17:10 #256590
Yeah, and thanks dude! They’ve been utterly brilliant today, lots of sleeping and no projectile vomit. Shame Battlefront didn’t arrive really, my wife is napping and I have an hour to kill now, it would’ve been perfect! Anyone got it yet?20/11/15 at 11:23 #256624RocketSOLParticipant
I picked up my pre-order from GAME yesterday and played a good few hours too. Collected my thoughts on the game below. Some slight gameplay spoilers if you’re concerned about that.
First off, I’m a huge Star Wars fan so I was always going to be biased towards the game. It looks fantastic, it sounds fantastic, I also enjoy the gameplay more than any other online FPS I’ve played recently. I think the arcade feel to it was the best route to take (if you compare it to battlefield and COD). As there is no other FPS i’ll be playing online I have no concerns about buying the season pass to get more content.
I mainly played Walker Assault and Supremacy but dabbled in a few other game modes too – all quite enjoyable when your team actually plays correctly (more on that shortly).
The maps are enjoyable but I find the design of some a little odd. I’ve got nothing bad to say about Hoth and the Jundland Wastes on Tatooine. Brilliant maps. Love them. Sullust is so open its easy to get cut down in seconds especially by the turbo laser if anyone is sitting in there – I dont believe they are over-powered as many are saying online…I mean, you need them to shoot down ships so shooting a solider is obviously going to do serious damage!
Endor…urgh, I love the design of the map BUT gameplay wise: there is only one AT-AT in this map so the empire is at a disadvantage from the start (intentional maybe?), AT-ST’s get stuck on the terrain so its easier to stay in the valley with them and get torn apart quickly! The speeder bikes also seem quite pointless as only sections of the map are available at any one time during the Walker Assault mode. Perhaps they are better in the supremacy mode?
So the only really infuriating thing I’ve noticed so far is that people in the smaller matches don’t play for the objectives. They just sit in a corner and shoot people if they run past. Countless times yesterday the opposing team kept winning within 5 minutes as nobody on my team did anything to stop them. eg – our cargo is being stolen. shall we chase him? nah, lets just stay here and wait for the next guy. I think the smaller modes are better with a group you know.
I’m looking forward to more maps for Walker Assault and supremacy already. The 4 map cycle goes past so quickly. Bring on the battle of Jakku!!
As for the film, can’t wait. Got my midnight showing booked!!22/11/15 at 10:13 #256692Dominic LeightonParticipant
To say I’m inappropriately excited would be putting it mildly! To be honest Battlefront is unabashed fun, and as a Star Wars fan I couldn’t help but be drawn in, and it should keep me going until December 17th.
I’m also reading the new canon novels – or listening to them on audiobook – while also listening to the Collider Jedi Council podcast which is brilliant, even if they do say words in an American fashion!
I just hope the film is as good as we all hope it will be!
And double congratulations on the birth of your twins Ron!22/11/15 at 17:12 #256693
Thanks Dom :) ‘Unabashed fun’ and ‘Star Wars done right’ sum up the game excellently, in addition is like to praise it’s supreme accessibility. This afternoon I played online with my 31 year old mate from school and my 12 and 8 year old nephews, we all had a blast! It’s not a hard game but it brings so much atmosphere and fun to the table that I can’t imagine it being anything but a resounding success. I’m so pleased it’s a crowd pleaser, sod the hardcore, us noobs got the game we wanted!
I haven’t had too much time to explore the offline options but does anyone know if you can play Walker Assault offline with bots?22/11/15 at 22:33 #256694AvengerParticipant
I couldn’t help myself earlier today, so I dived into a couple of hours in the game. It’s fantastic. Completely amazed at just how accessible it was, as I got to try just about a bit of everything in the 4 Walker Assault missions.
To answer your question Ron, there’s no way of playing Walker Assault offline with bots unfortunately. I have tried the single player content though, and in my opinion it’s pretty damn good. The battles mode is a kill confirmed style death match that can be played regular or as a hero on each planet. I tried the different difficulties and the AI are very good, there’s good flow, and because the five star achievements are so hard to get, there’s lots of challenge and a feeling of the old Battlefronts to it. Trying out survival that was pretty decent too. Overall impression of the game, fantastic. I’m not hesitant about buying it, I think I’ll get more than my fair share of fun out of it.
Posted a video below of the Battles mode.23/11/15 at 10:14 #256718
I had a good root through the menus but thanks Avenger, having read around the internet it’s clear that only a few modes would be single player but I’m still extremely disappointed. You’re right the AI is very good, it would’ve been wonderful to have Walker Assault and whatever the dogfight mode is called available to play without the annoyance of real people… who are better than me :) I just worry the servers won’t last many years, but maybe that’s a silly thing to think when Burnout Paradise’s ones are still going strong.27/11/15 at 21:27 #257025RocketSOLParticipant
I’m really loving the fighter squadron mode the more I play it. Your choice of vehicles is limited but it’s so much fun. I rarely get the chance to play as the falcon or slave 1 but when you do…oh its sweet. I love the first person view in slave 1!!
The game might be lacking content overall but what is there is so good!!!
