Not expecting anyone to see this for the tumbleweed, but I’m wondering if I can make a weird request. Would anyone be willing to lend me a Wolfenstein game disc in the post? I’d send it straight back, it’s purely so I can cheat my way to the platinum! No scruples :)
I’ve been splashing credits all over the place, wasted a lot on a species up Dolphin, picked up two fussy passengers who didn’t pay for their trip just because I approached a planet too fast (bastards), then sold the whole thing. I’ve now got an Asp Explorer, taken a trip into the Orion Nebula and found and tagged my own system on the way back! Back to trading now, or mostly being cheeky and stacking planetary survey missions, bashing my Cobra about.
The journey into the Nebula was great, a perfect example of setting my own goal, having to gather the parts, tune up the FSD and then doing the trip whilst scanning away. Not sure what’s next, I’ll probably just do the community goals for a couple of weeks and take a break from late nights warping to and fro.
Yeah the Engineers are a pain in the arse, I’ve been to two now and the shopping list of bits it’s well summarised as ‘annoying’, as are their locations.
I hadn’t heard of Beagle Point before your post so I looked it up and came across this amazing little forum article which chronicles the Elite communitie’s exploration progress since the start. Fascinating stuff, it gives you great perspective:
I know what you mean about the exploit, it feels wrong, especially so since almost all goals in the game are down to us as the players. As dirty as I am for cheating my way to 9 million credits I’m happy to have gotten familiar with barnacles and I’m glad to have the money. It’s back to the straight and narrow for me. I think I’ll get involved in community goals more now, if only to keep up with the story. It seems like an easy way to keep up on the narrative whilst playing other games too.
Just discovered a horrendous exploit! You know when you save & quit and flick between open and solo play to refresh missions? Well it works with barnacles and I just sold 16 meta-alloys for huge cash and a giant chunk of community goal reward. Happy hunting, here’s a picture of the ship that’s doing all the cheating :)
Yeah 500 the 1000 miles. Although at 40mph they’ll take a lot of boring hours to get.
Hah! Oh dear, I’ve made that mistake once but on the approach without docking permission, got shot down pretty quick. Nice haul you got, the distance is pretty crap and I guess it much be the meta-alloy that attracts attention, I didn’t realise that but have been interdicted several times since I picked it up. I now have two engineers to visit.
Did you try the combat community goal? I signed up but I can’t find anyone to shoot down. There’s no nav beacon in that system, a couple of resource spots that no one visits and a station, that seems to be it.
And well done with the barnacles. I really enjoyed the whole process of approaching, hunting them down in those canyons and bouncing around in the SRV. Very satisfying.
Ah gotcha, thanks mate! Yeah I noticed that, I suffer the same at work we always see GMT instead of British Summer Time. It’s a royal pain in the arse when the clocks change, properly brain melting when it happens, especially if you’re doing a night shift at the autumn change the bloody shift ends up actually lasting an extra hour!
Having said that, the community goal ends tomorrow, so if that’s the case not long to wait.
So that star type code is handy, is the type info stating is in the face right before we jump? I haven’t noticed it :)
After reading around whilst parked and fuel scooping I’m not sure meta-alloy is available to buy when a community goal involves its delivery, mining might be the only way.
Just got back to Tun, handed in my scan data and made 1.2 million and shot up two ranks to Surveyor!! Not a bad days work.
Yeah it really does :) Let me know if you find the alloy, it’ll be interesting to see whether I’ve picked the place clean for just me or for everyone playing the game. I’m heading back to Tun to drop off my spares then it’s on to the engineer.
I’ve been driving into the wilderness just now trying to find an unexplored planet but everything I come across has been tagged by a ‘Backer’, must be something to do with Kickstarter? Bloody annoying, I’m as far as I dare go with this cargo.
I gave up on buying meta-alloy, no luck on either of those locations, but not far from Blackmount is a system with two barnacles on a planet that you could get meta-alloy from. Here’s a picture of the site…

The meta alloys are in the large green pods on the spikes around the two barnacles (trophy for scanning a barnacle!), the tiny green pods can’t be mined, the big ones are obvious and that’s what you’re after. You need to shoot them off in the SRV turret, target them, then cargo scoop them up, then they appear as meta-alloy in your inventory. I got four, sold one for the community goal, need one for the engineer, so two spare in case I can help you out with an early Christmas present!
The community goal at Blackmount involves taking them meta-alloy so I doubt they’ve got any, I’ll check though and I’m gonna make a run to Danielle for some especially since you mention the engineer’s demand, is it the old lady? I got a message from one yesterday I think it was her.
Hah yeah that ATC thing made me laugh, it was happening to me every takeoff, very silly! I’ve noticed that and some other improvements to the sound and UI, a few things seem a bit more spangly.
I just arrive at the Blackmount Orbital station that’s in the community mission, it’s really gorgeous as it’s being built inside an asteroid right next to a ringed planet. Time for some big space truckin’ to earn some fat dollaaah.
Just noticed in today’s patch notes that there’s a fix that stops new players seeing the welcome mission. Handy, I didn’t see any welcome mission, did you MrYd? Can I blame all my moaning about directionlessness on this lack of welcome mission?
Under 100 what? Sausages? Beans? Zimbabwe Dollars? Kidney stones? Infected toenails? Pubes? Irritating forum spammers? You’re clearly not a physics teacher.
