I think I’m similarly rated to you. My time ranking up with the Feds in order to get to Sol didn’t do much for my progress or bank balance, but I did get the Sol trophy 4th according to psnprofiles, in easily pleased :)

I got my Keelback and immediately parked it and went back to my Cobra. I’d not though about the stock parts and in particular having to do 10 jumps for a trip that takes 2 in my Cobra was such a pain, so it’ll stay in the garage until I’ve earned enough to buy some good parts. My Cobra is now full of highly rated parts, but it’s reaching its limit, the huge cost for tiny increase in stats is now offputting and it’s pretty fast and versatile now so I’m gonna stop spending.

Without meaning to I’ve adopted a home base at Tun, repping up with the local factions is allowing me to earn nearly half a million on some of the missions I see now, plus it’s a fast place to return to at 190Ls from its sun and it’s not far from a great shipyard station. I quite like that I’ve got a home, it’s become comfortable and gives far off places a foreign feel, and also means that the current community mission (of defending that new base for Thargoid spotting) has a distant frontier feel to it. I’m starting to read the Galnet and google old community missions from the last couple of years to pick up the story, which I didn’t even know existed! I made the mistake of assuming Elite was a space sim with trading, now I realise that it’s extremely deep. You’re right to pick me up on comparing it to NMS MrYd, they both happen in space and that’s where the similarities end!

Hah, visit whatever planet you like but stay away from mine.

I made it to Earth! It was quite a fun trip, I learnt lots about space trucking along the way and got a weird bit of perspective on our home, it really is tiny. Right, now I’m after that Keelback, back we go to Tun (unless you’re going to join the Fed rebellion and be a freedom fighting space pirate Sol looks really boring).

Sol meet up sounds like a plan! A little TSA trundle on The Moon would be lovely!

I’m not far off being able to afford a Keelback, but I’m gonna learn from you and make sure I’m ready with insurance money, weapons and funds for extras before I splash out.

I’ve had fun with strong gravity too, I ended up slamming into an outpost in the dark, picking up fines for banging about while I tried to get unstuck from whatever I got stuck on, eventually picking up a bounty and being shot down before I could escape the system. Annoying but on reflection I like how the game enforces its rules.

I’m also getting into the trading and data courier rhythm, thanks to you both for all your advice. I’m currently working at increasing my Fed rank so I can get access to Sol, after which I’ll tour around our solar system a bit and get into some surface missions and bounty hunting. I’m really enjoying the process of lining up some contracts, hopping around like a busy little DHL driver picking up and dropping off as I go, then heading back to Tun (my home for now) to donate (bribe) my way up the ranks. Still aiming for my Keelback, only a million to go now :)

I read there’s a 30+ Ly drive about but the high twenties and some guy did the trip there (but not back) from 24kLy away in 700 jumps and it took him 8 hours. That’s a hell of a grind!

I’ve discovered a lot of handy Reddit and wiki articles this afternoon so thanks for he advice Avenger! I’m looking forward to a long session tonight, Elite is definitely the CERN engineer’s top spec Volvo compared to the No Man Sky’s Hipster Apple Employee with his stickerbombed new Mini. Hope that makes sense!?

Thanks for the help guys, I just had a couple of hours of playing like a courier, after upgrading to a cobra 3 I feel like I really got into the swing of things. I get now that the game leaves things up to you in an old school kind of way, much like Elite has always done, but it would have been good of them to give an idea of whether you’re doing something wrong or its just really hard cos your equipment is crap. Anyway, enjoying it now :)

I hadn’t thought of the fire groups, ta. Does the scanner just do its thing or does it need activating? And do I need to buy one? I think the default ship has some sort of scanner but there are several types and the descriptions in the store are a bit woolley. And I had a quick go last night but after arriving in the named system for a black box mission I was at a loss about what to do again, no obvious markers or clues just the sun. So frustrating.

Nice work mate! Got any tips about the ‘find this black box in this entire system’ or ‘mine this resource somewhere in the empty, inky blackness near this station’? I’m hammering away at those courier missions whilst saving up for something with some more cargo space and hard points, haven’t decided what yet, but whatever it is will only be a stopgap until I can get a Keelback and waste the cargo space on a fighter bay. Then I will be McPhatsolo!

31 is a good year, I’m 31 and I’ve been on a lot of stag dos since my last birthday in June! I’ve also moaned a lot more though haha. Happy birthday for next week mate, hope you have a good one :)

I’m still crap at Twitter and I don’t like the way everything’s presented, I struggle to take it all in. I think I’m getting too old and grumpy!

Anyone fancy some boosting in Carmageddon? Lots of fun but there’s o way the MP trophies are possible anymore, the lobbies are quieter than a nuns dildo drawer.

You guys are machines! Good job Del, and Youles I’m genuinely impressed by your 100% OCD, that can’t be easy to maintain :)

I’ve recently discovered the psnprofiles trophy advisor, it’s been a great excuse to dive into old PS3 games for an hour or two at a time! I’m currently chewing my way through Force Unleashed 2 after a few days of Critter Crunch, both excellent, so Titanfall 2 is on the back burner.

Good to hear you liked Get Out, can’t wait to see that myself. Shame you don’t enjoy G2, I agree about the comedy but I don’t think story is always massively important, my standards are low enough that I really enjoy the Fast and Furious series haha.
I thought Logan was fantastic, proper scphincter pinchingly brutal and quite a gritty story, even if with TLoU similarities.
I think we’re in a mediocre phase of cinema, there’s plenty of brilliant stuff about but the big budget, heavily advertised stuff is often very meh. I’m trying to enjoy the meh for what it is, especially since little ones limit my cinema time.
