Don’t ask us why, but it appears the upcoming Awakening expansion pack for BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins will only be available in Europe through digital distribution. Bad news for fantasy fans who have a penchant for buffing their discs along with their shields on the weekends. The news comes from the game’s FAQ section over at the official site.
Dragon Age: Origins sold pretty well in Europe, so we’re at a loss as to the reasoning behind EA’s disc-less decision.
The Frequently(?) Asked Quandary in full states:
2.8 – Will Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening be available through Digital Download? Will it be on Steam again?
Yes, Awakening will be available on Steam and via other digital download services. It is also available for download for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In Europe and other PAL video/game region countries, the PS3 version is only available as a download.
If you believe you have an insight into why this decision has been made, feel free to let us know in the comments as we’re totally stumped. We have put in a call to EA, however, who – after they’ve deciphered our question somewhere amongst the rabid screaming and sounds of swords being sharpened in the background – will surely get back to us with a retort post-haste, m’lord.
