TheSixthAxis has grown steadily since those days when we were just a small group of gamers talking to each other on a fancy website Alex and Michael had founded. Now we have a large group of gamers talking to each other on a fancy website Alex and Michael founded.
But the community of commenters, clan-members and likeminded gamers is only a part of the story. Our readership is now many thousands of times larger than it was in those days and that fact brings its own responsibilities and workloads. Our workforce has grown too and, although TSA still endeavours to find a way of paying our staff, we all currently do this for free. It’s not an easy task and there are times when we need to reshuffle staff and add new blood. This is one of those times.
We are welcoming applicants who wish to work with TheSixthAxis as a News Writer. Successful applicants will work under our News Editor and will be expected to post regular news articles to the site in a professional and expedient manner. The role is on a voluntary (unpaid) basis but the workload is still quite heavy and you will need to be a competent writer with a passion for the games industry in order to succeed. Your responsibilities will be based around the gathering of news but there may also be opportunities for you to attend events, conduct interviews and write occasional features and reviews.
While we are not currently in a position to offer financial reward for this role we do hope that our reputation will give anybody’s future career in the games-writing industry a boost.
If you think that you would like to work with one of Europe’s (and possibly even the world’s) largest fully independent console-gaming websites then send us an email to peter[at]thesixthaxis[dot]com and include a couple of examples of your work so we know that you can string a sentence together.

I’d love to submit some articles but can’t be arsed. Hey, at least I’m honest. Oh, and I’ve not played Killzone 2 so Crawfail would never take me seriously. :-)
Stitch
I hope my long list of ‘unmissable’ games I am yet to play won’t stand against my application – at least I’ve played Killzone 2 though!

The only problem with TSA is the lack of news and acitvity on the forums in the morning.
cc_star
Create an interesting thread in the General Chat forums and see what happens
Also if you know any news you can add it to the gaming news forum, or send the tip in… Once the news gatherers are in place there shouldn’t be a problem getting it on the site
bunimomike
I think that’s also a time-zone problem. With USA asleep during all of a British morning, things seem to inherently feel a little slow.
Also, definitely add some good quality threads on the forum! We’re a fairly (in)decent bunch.

Given that my writing skills are pretty pony I wont be applying but good luck to anyone who does.

When you say “biscuits”.
Does that include Jaffa Cakes?
colossalblue
well, no. Jaffa Cakes are a cake, clearly.
Don’t worry though, we can have cake too.
newsky87
The Jaffa Cake is NOT a lie!

Two questions,
1) Is a qualification in Journalism or degree level English a prerequisite ?
2) Should I be sober when I write my examples this time ?
colossalblue
1)Absolutely not, I only know a couple of people with actual journalism degrees and they both work in PR!
2) Yes, probably.
DJ-Katy
I strongly disagree with (2), I’m always stoned when I write for TSA and everyone thinks I rock *grin*
YOURMUMANDME
1)That’s so weird because my friends that have studied public relations and events management all work in supermarkets…… swings and roundabouts hey !
2)I have written in a guest article once before and I was gutter level trashed when I attempted it, funnily enough it never made it to the front page !
Tuffcub
Dear lord I hope you never get angry when you’re sober.

All I’d done before TSA was about 3 articles for the UEA newspaper and that was 8 years ago.
rht992
hey writing when your drunk gets surprisingly good results! i’m not promoting it but. . well. . its works for music
Pemberton_
Good luck to anyone that applies.

Im assuming one of the responsibility’s of a News Writer include spending a lot of time searching places for gaming news, which is where I would fall down on as I dont know the places to find these snippets of news (excluding other gameing news websites).
Stitch
It wasn’t all that long ago that we had press releases, nowadays the news seems diluted by who tweeted what and announcements of announcements. This is what’s led to the challenge of presenting the news so that the important bits stand out, something that is reflected in TSA’s site design.
AG2297
Yeh I have noticed the different type of storys around here too, but I was wondering if the job would include hours of scouring the internet in places (which i wouldent at firt know to look) searching for news or is a lot of the news already found by others and just waiting to be written up. I still remember what a fantastic job Wotta did with the news around here and it seems a big position to fill.
rht992
sounds amazing but i’m not up for the task. maybe one day i’ll try to write something but for now i’ll stay at the side line
Tuffcub
Can all applicants please ensure they do not live in London as I quite like having all the launch parties here to myself. Thank you.
Stitch
Sorry Tuffcub, I’m applying but I’m sure you’ll still get to go to them all regardless. In fact if I get the job I hope we both get to go. To make things worse I spent a lot of time in Guildford too – which is literally packed with games developers!
Charmed_Fanatic
I would apply if i was any good at english
