UK To Get A Dedicated Video Game Channel

One of the most baffling things I find as a gamer is the lack of quality TV shows about games.  Playr seems to have died a tragic death, The Ginx Files is fairly good, as is GameFace – but that’s where the trail ends.  Well good news today as the UK is to get its first 24/7 videogaming TV channel – which will start at the end of November.

Our saviours are Ginx TV – the lot behind Gameface, and the channel will be shown on Virgin and Sky channels.

CEO Michiel Bakker had the following to say;

“The Ginx channel is going to be an evolution rather than an overnight revolution. Is it a good TV show to watch people play games? Does that make for good TV? If it does we’ll do it. If it doesn’t we won’t.

You have to understand that in a 24 hour channel there will be elements of repeat. We’re not doing 24 hours fresh content one hour after the other. That would be too ambitious. So there’s a healthy level of repeat in it.”

Ginx TV is hoping to launch with four shows, and may be in HD.  Hopefully it will be able to tread the fine line between being informative whilst not coming across as patronising.

  1. Hopefully this one will survive

  2. this wont work, it will probably end up broadcasting from 12noon till late and have rubbish USA adverts selling workout machines in the morning lol

  3. When and where are these Ginx & Gameface on?
    Thanks

  4. Remember gamer TV? that show was really good, then all of a sudden they were like “last ep gaiz!”

  5. maybe they advertise tsa

  6. No freeview? simplebob said two posts before me about not on PlayTv, he’s right, it is silly, the only tv service in the UK on a games console, and the UK’s only Video game channel isn’t on??!!

  7. it would be better if it would be online…

  8. I always watch GameFace so I personally can’t wait for this.

  9. Does no one remember x-league tv which later became Pulse and was pretty crap to be honest.

  10. While I think a dedicated is over-stretching themselves, I do think that there is scope for an improvement to the woeful Gameface. I believe a show that follows roughly the same format as Top Gear, where each presenter is a “fanboy” of each company (for banter), there is a live audience for interaction and they have challenges (eg Nurburgring 24 in GT5 in real time) would be quite popular.

    If they do go down this channel path, I hope they include E3, TGS & Gamecon decently for those that can’t make it.
