Sony On Picking An HDTV

Over on The Sony Blog they have posted a video offering advice on choosing the right HDTV. Now, being a Sony-produced marketing aide trying to pass itself off as consumer advice it is naturally biased towards recommending bigger screen sizes than more impartial sources.  It also favours LCD TVs over Plasma TVs, obviously, as Sony do not produce or sell them, making some dubious statements as it does so.

The video really only has two things going for it.  The first that I could try and use it to persuade my bank manager that I really do need a 60″ TV instead of my current 40″ one, because “look, Sony say so”.  The second is that you get to watch Veronica Belmont, of Qore and Tekzilla fame, for a couple of minutes which is never a bad thing.  Providing the gaming angle, other than Ms Belmont’s position as Qore presenter, is a few seconds of previously seen GT5 footage towards the end of the video.

Yes, you are right, it is something of a slow news day and tangentially this does dovetail nicely with today’s Sunday Thoughts as it uses an attractive presenter to garner more interest in an otherwise bland and biased marketing message.  Clearly that is a technique that works on me.

  1. i got happy but then realised the GT footage is nothing more but an old trailer. =(

    • What part of “previously seen GT5 footage” caused you to think it was anything but?

  2. Ah, the delightful Ms Belmont. That was cheesy as hell but I still watched it twice.
