Official PlayStation App Announced

As previously reported, a PlayStation Application will soon be available to download for your iDevice and Android phone.  The only caveats are your iDevice needs to be running OS 4 or higher, and your Android device needs to be running OS 1.6 as a minimum.

This free app will allow you to:

  • Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.
  • Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2.
  • Read all the announcements on the European PlayStation.Blog.
  • Share your favourite products or news with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.

The first version (1.0) will be available in the following countries: UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands.  Sony is working on the next version that will support most SCEE countries and languages, and will also let you comment on PlayStation.Blog.

There are “tons” more features planned, so stay tuned!

  1. So it merges yourregion.playstation.com with the blog?

If they had a better designed site which degraded across devices gracefully they wouldn’t need this, but all the same a dedicated App means its highly customised to the device, which is all good.

Hopefully one of the ‘tons of features’ coming soon is the ability to browse the store, make purchases & queue downloads

    • My thoughts exactly. The slapped a couple of web pages together to make the ‘app’. It’s a marketing tool rather than anything useful, where is msging, PSN store access?

    • I would absolutely love to access the store on my ipod.

  2. I have a third party one where you can see your friends list and trophies. Looking forward to an official one, it’s been a long time coming.

  3. Bring it out on the Ovi store!
    Please!

  4. so wait will my 2ng gen itouch play it?

  5. Sad to see they won’t be supporting Windows Phone 7. Way to try and win people over from Xbox Live on that platform Sony!

    • I doubt MS would let them release it on their store

      • There would be no reason Microsoft wouldn’t allow it. It would break their own submission rules if they did block it.

  6. Of those ‘tons’ of more features planned, I’d love to see messaging included most as it would make life much easier communicating with friends whilst playing games. The ability to make purchases from the PSN store would also be nice.

  7. I want to buy an iPhone early next year, right in time :)
althought, it could serve for other things, such as… (???)

  8. this is almost quite ironic

  9. Reading through the official responses in the blog comments, this is just the start and they have lots more features planned to add in the future.

  10. I thought it might turn out to just be something like that but at least it’s a start. Hopefully messaging and store access can be added also.
